Question for you guys that are rooted, what apps do you use?

Right now I have:

  1. "ES File Explorer" - (this is the only free one I found that could access system files, also tried Root Browser Lite, X-Plore File Manager, ASTRO File Manager/Browser, and some could only rename files, others couldn't move anything. I also have FileExpert (free version) for just regular file management.)
  2. "SuperSU" - (had to install SuperUser first.)
  3. "WiFi Tether for Root Users" - (I tried WiFi Hotspot & USB Tether Lite, Barnacle WiFi Tether, Wireless Tether For Root Users, and Wifi Tethering...some just didn't work and others I wasn't able to connect with laptop.)
  4. "Titanium Backup * root"
  5. "AdAway"
Anyone maybe get one of the ones I said I couldn't get working to work? Or maybe found another one I didn't mention?

Superuser
BusyBox
Titanium Backup
AdFree Android
Root Explorer
Font Changer (changes the system font. i whipped up a version of Helvetica that has the same character set as Droid Sans and popped it on there and it looks REALLY CLASSY, observe:)

and screenshot it, obviously.

probably will add a tethering app at some point, and maybe check out some of the things y'all are using.

CPU Tuner
Does this work? I thought the kernel had to support it?

just installed root call blocker pro, since - this being a VM phone - the previous owner of the number apparently owed a lot of money to a lot of different credit agencies who will not stop calling me no matter how many times i tell them that i am not miguel, i can't really be miguel because i'm not even a guy, i haven't known anyone named miguel since high school, and please leave me alone.

I'd have vm change you number if it wouldn't be a burden for you. Under the circumstances they shouldn't charge you.

It would be a massive pain, my cell is my main phone, so I'd have to change it EEEEVerywhere. The call blocker app is working wonderfully, though. I'm not too bothered by it any more. Highly recommend it if you need to block creeps and credit agencies.

Really!! I'm using wifi tether for root user with no issue... weird it gave you a error 67.

To fix an error 67 you have to do an rtn reset. This will erase everything and your phone will be like the first time you took it out if box

Open phone dialer

Dial ##rtn#

It will ask for msl

Select reset and let phone reset

After it boots back up you will need to run activation app

You will keep your root so just reinstall superuser

No, it was working fine for me too, but I tried to turn on 3G WHILE I was using the hotspot. I think that is what caused it, what is supposed happen with error 67? I just can't turn on 3G anymore. My only choice is to reset huh?

Well if I have all my information written down (MSL, MDN, MSID, ESN/MEID HEX, ESN/MEID DEC) is there a different way to just input that instead of going through the reactivation?

If you try 3g and keep getting the error 67 you must reset. When you reset it wipes out your phone number and mdn. You must reactivate to reprogram your phone.

It doesn't wipe esn or meid or any of that good stuff. Reactivation just takes a min and you don't have to call vm or anything

If you don't wanna run activation app you can dial ##virgin# and select edit and manually put in phone and mdn numbers after reset

The error was popping up every few minutes actually after that, whether 3G was toggled or not. So did everyone else just never happen to be using 3G at the same time the WiFi/Tether apps were being used? Can't imagine this being random because it was as soon as I thought "Hmmm, bet the hotspot could have a better connection with 3G, *turn on 3G*" then error code 67 instantly.

Also gonna mention that I am using all free apps at this point so since I don't have Titanium Backup Pro I found "App Quarantine" that will allow me to freeze apps.

Superuser/Busybox aside (install if you don't have them)...

Titanium Backup - REQUIRED. The gold standard of backup apps.
Quickboot
AdAway
Battery Calibration
CPU Tuner
SD Speed Increase

Next is Link2SD, once I figure out how to format my SD card.

How far can these be overclocked stable? Realistically I'm thinking like 1.5ghz

Anyone have a Wifi tether app that works with 3G on (read my post above as to what happened with mine)? If you haven't tested it and are going to check, be prepared to have to reset the phone to get rid of error code 67.

Open Garden WiFi seems to work happily for me. I hook my Xoom up regularly to it with no problems. If I'm on WiFi on my phone it automatically turns it off so it connects to 3G then turns the WiFi back on when it's done (although I have no use for that feature myself!)
