Hi all,
I am updating to include IMAP info for hotmail, the new hotmail app that Microsoft released is still not up to my standards at all, but it is a lot better, but I am now switching over to Aquamail, as I find the built in email apps are sluggish and updates on them only happen when you get some type of firmware update, that is sad. Aquamail is the only one so far to keep loading older messages, if you try it you will see, and there are many many options for just about anyone, and it works now with IMAP hotmail!!
go to bottom for hotmail IMAP info

I found this here, I am just going to repost it
Samsung Galaxy S - How to: Setup Hotmail Account with folders guide

It works great from my tests so far, and has all my hotmail folders!
I got tired of clicking on more (or show more) in every single email, so I now use Enhanced email, and I tried lots of them and Enhanced Email as of now is the best.

The live way did not work properly or delete my emails also (from the phone when I deleted them on my computer)

here it is

10/2013 I am now swithcing to AquaMail with IMAP for outlook.com now
Good Email app I have found and tried many others including the official hotmail app, edit: EE works great but as of late it has very lacking in the updating and falling way behind the others, I like features in it but many are now lacking, hopefully they change and start to catch up, but now I am changing to aquamail.

An alternate method of accessing your hotmail.

1. In the web browser go to your hotmail account and sign in, it will automatically sign into the mobile version.

2. At the top where it says "<<Hotmail folders > Inbox", click "Hotmail folders", your screen will then look like this (minus or plus any custom folders you have added)

Screenshot_2012-07-10-20-26-26.png

3. Save this page as a bookmark.

4. Go to your bookmarks, long press and choose "Add Shortcut To Home" adding an icon to your home page.

5. Move the icon to whatever screen you want.

Benefits:
Always signed in unless you sign out
Access to Hotmail "Quick Views"
Open attachments
Access to other Windows Live options like the SkyDrive (Menu at the top right corner)
Email search (not sure if the email client on this phone has that)

Downsides:
Unable to attach files
Does not notify you of a new email

For the life of me I cant believe there are no good hotmail apps or email apps.

I have gave up on the built in email app, having to go to the bottom of every email to hit that button was just time wasting!!!
Unless someone knows how to enable it all the time or move it to the top where it belongs.

Im using the hotmail app Microsoft + seven its the best I think so far, but my built in zoom email app just works fine on the zoom, what gives with the samsung one, why did they destroy it?

Am I missing something somewhere?

I need to send attachments and the app that im using now is just beating me to death.
PLEASE HELP

OK people here is the major problem with the official hotmail app (I pay the $20 a year hotmail and can send larger files)

add 3 or 4 pictures and send them to someone, and repeat while the first is sending, the Official hotmail app chugs (at the very least on 3g, dont remember if it worked on 4g) and does not send or sends one email but not the other and both are in the outbox leaving you not knowing what went thru

I use this all the time for work and need it to work reliably and the Microsoft app does not at all, I am back to the samsung app and just scrolling all the way to the bottom and clicking "load more details"
and all my folders show up right away I dont have to add them, I cant believe Microsoft screwed up their own app, thats what we get from them.

Something else is screwy with their app I forgot what. (might be something with zooming)
Also that one has to hit menu then hit delete , what we're they thinking

I am using the built in Hotmail app and I am ok with it, except when I delete mail, it also deletes it on the server. I like to do that on my PC. I did not see a way to not have it that way?

If you set it up as an "other" email account and then select manual set up you can decide when it deletes from the server.

....for some reason I can't get the hotmail account to work, I set "unable to connect to servers". It's all good, the way I'm doing it now works perfect.

The problem with setting it up as a pop account is you get no folder access

You will get the option to not delete of the server (I never want that, and it still goes into the deleted/trash anyway)
And it does show html emails without clicking, but I need folders also so exchange server is the only way so far until imap support for me

HI! I've set up my email according to guide above but i still can't see my hotmail folders. Only inbox sent etc... does any one know why?

4.0.4

Hi ,
Is it my guide in the first post? Or what other one
Are you using??

I am using enhanced email now it works the best out of all others hands down
I have 3 emails set-up in it
Hotmail
Charter
Icloud
All Under enhanced email
It does cost $10
But it shows html without clicking show more, etc..
I will post all my setup guides for enhanced email soon , added to my first post
There is one little glitch with it at the moment that the developer is working on and it is you can not at the moment zoom out to fit the screen in portrait

When your in your inbox
press menu
Press folders
choose one of your hotmail folders and remember It only shows what you select for an option below.

while in your email (inbox, etc..)
menu
settings
choose your hotmail
scrool down to find and select "Period to sync emails"

you will only see whats in your folders from the time frame you select here including inbox.

Let me know it this fixes your problem.

You did choose exchange when you set it up?

Yes I set it up as exchange but still no luck. I have ebay folder in my hotmail account but no emails from that folder appeared on my phone (some of them are not older then a week)

Yes I set it up as exchange but still no luck. I have ebay folder in my hotmail account but no emails from that folder appeared on my phone (some of them are not older then a week)

hit menu and refresh a few times and the folder will populate, I tried it again this morning with the app you are using and it worked for me
Let me know.

The problem with the official outlook email app is...
when you send 4 or 5 pictures you took with the camera on the phone some emails go thru, some dont and the some that do go thru stay in the outbox and they went thru and others don't go thru and stay in your outbox (is normal) but you cant even resend them, and have no clue to the ones that did go thru, I had to recreate the emails using only 2 pictures to get them to work.

Again I need this to just work, not half work (I need it for my work), so that official hotmail app is junk....

but by all means use it if you want but this is the flaw I saw, and also going to delete emails you have to hit menu every time, what a pain...

enhanced email works great so far (with that one minor flaw that the developer is working on), the delete button is down the bottom where it belongs.
I should also point out the trial you can get of it does not work properly at all, but the final paid app does and I can sent 5 pictures fine in an email, with sending 3 of them at once (as soon as it takes time wise that is for the other 2 to make and send)

Just use the regular Hotmail app you can download in the Market. It really is a solid functioning app & easy to set up.

It does not work well at all.

It does not work well at all.

Look.....your situation is a pretty specific one. Not saying it's not very important to YOU but the ability to rapid fire 5 pictures at once and then another 5 pictures 2 seconds later and you're not sure what is being sent or not........that is a very specific complaint. Are the pictures actually NOT getting through at all, or is it just that you are impatient and don't want to or can't wait a minute to get the sync on the sent folder? Maybe I'm misunderstanding your major beef with the app.

I think the Hotmail app works much better than the stock ICS email app....the fonts on the overall screen aren't gigantic like the stock, there are nice little check boxes where you can click click click and then hit DELETE or MARK READ or MARK UNREAD all at once, it works for HMTL email viewing, and it syncs properly. Yes, I have successfully sent attached pictures from mine on multiple occasions. So to say "it does not work well at all" is mis-information to all the people on here that might be considering it as an option......
