S3 and Toyota Bluetooth Compatibility?

I've been hearing mixed things about the S3's compatibility with Toyota stereos. I am looking to buy an S3 next month, but want to make sure there will be no issues with regards to streaming audio, hands-free calling, etc.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced issues with the S3 in Toyotas, and if so, what model/year your vehicle is. I have a 2012 Camry with the base Display Audio system, and my current phone (Droid Incredible 1, running CM7) works perfectly with my car's head unit. Any other 2012 model owners out there who have had issues with the S3?

I have 2 Toyotas. A 2009 Tacoma and a 2011 Rav4. I have had no issues pairing the phone up with the car in under 5 minutes. Very straight forward. No issues once completed.

I cannot answer regarding streaming audio.

I have a 2010 toyota prius with the tech package (Nav, lane keep assist, radar cruse control, parking assist, ect..)

The siii works perfectly.
phone, music, pandora, ect.. perfect.

2009 Prius. No issues. In fact, the auto connect is rock solid which I can't say for my droid X.

Ok, thanks. I think I will bite the bullet on the S3, and if I have issues with my car bluetooth, swap it out for a different model.

On my 2010 Lexus (Toyota), I can pair the S3 up for both phone and streaming media no problem. HOWEVER, once both profiles are paired, if I get/make a call, the media profile disconnects and will not re-pair until the car's ignition is turned off and back on. In the end I gave up and just use the BT connection for the phone and an iPod nano for media.

Every once in a while (10% of the time?) my Camry will do something similar, although disconnecting and re-connecting the phone solves it.

Toyota owns Lexus, but I wonder if they use a different manufacturer for Lexus stereos than they do for Toyotas (Toyota does not manufacture its own stock stereos, instead they contract with other companies, often Pioneer or Fujitsu). Do you have the stock sound system or the premium?

The problem seems to be that the head unit is version 2 BT and the phone is version 4 BT. Samsung say its not their problem and toyota say it's not theirs which leaves me stuck in the middle. They have suggested I buy a new radio, but I'm P***** off because I paid extra for the upgraded radio when I bought the car because I wanted Bluetooth. So be warned, although the current radio will (should) work, when you upgrade the phone next year or whenever and it has whatever the latest version of bluetooth is then and it no longer works, they won't lift a finger to help.

I have a 2012 Toyota Camry XLE hybrid with HD navigation. The S3 Bluetooth pairs with car. Entunes works perfectly the only issue is I cannot get text messages displayed on the screen.

You're Aussie, right? The more I look into the S3/Toyota complaints, I see that most of them are from Australians. I suspect there may be an issue with the S3 and Australian Toyota models. Perhaps Toyota uses a different stereo manufacturer for its Australian market?

Yep, Aussie. The head unit in the toyota is made by Fujistu and that is where the problem seemingly lies.

I just bought a 2012 Camry. It worked well with my iPhone. But now after I switch o S3, the phone connection never works. If I disabled the phone player on S3 Bluetooth side, the audio player works well. But if I try to connect the phone player, it will just keep calling myself.

Anyone has similar experience or any advice? thanks.

I have a Toyota Venza 2012 with the non-JBL radio / CD , so not the navigation system. It took a couple of tries to link both for calls and media, but I have no issues pairing and my push to talk button is great. The only issue I have is when I stream audio over bluetooth, I get a lot of high pitch cracking noise and I am trying to figure out how to get rid of that. It sounds so bad, I am thinking it is harmful to my speakers...

I had a Samsung Galaxy S2 which worked fine with my Rav 4 (2011 model). I now have a Galaxy S4 (lost the S2 ). The music works fine, but the hands free does not despite Toyota having installed the latest formware/software upgrade. The car's audio system advises ' not supported'. I have contacted Samsung Australia who toady advised they use the latest versions of bluetooth and it is up to the car manufacturers to keep up (interesting). Further, Samsung advised they only test for compatibility with other Samsung products - also interesting. My Rav 4 works perfectly linked to the iphone5 (sadly not mine) so my message to Toyota owners is avoid Samsung like the plague and buy an iphone or at least something that actually works hands free wise! I wpould also be cautious about buying any Samsung product that requires connection of any sort with a non Samsung product. Toyota have advised me they will look into the problem, but given the S3 is still problematic, looks like I will be stuck with an expensive phone that is less than useful in my car! Lesson learnt - one less future buyer of Samsung products.

The S4 is definetly not compatible with many Toyota's, certainly not the 2011 Rav4. If I was you I would ask to borrow /test whatever phone you are thinking of buying and determine if it does what you want it to. I'll never buy another mobile without physically ensuring it is compatible with my vehicle.

I have a 2013 Lexus ES300h with navigation and my S3 hasn't had any problems so far integrating with the car's systems. That's one reason I chose the S3 because I knew it would be compatible with the car.
