Root Wildfire S ~ Removing System Apps And Rooting Help?

(I apologise in advance for the long post but please bare with me here!) Hey, I'm completely new here so please give me some slack! I've read tons of posts on this topic but I am really struggling to put all the information together. Basically, I have a HTC Wildfire S and bought it pretty recently. But, the internal memory is really bad and being a bit of a perfectionist I hate having all these system apps I don't use as well. I realise that you have to root your phone to get rid of them, but I've never had anything to do with all this jailbreaking stuff so I'm finding it really confusing. I get that you need to back up your stuff (done) and then I've read about some pre-rooting stuff, like finding out about your phone to determine the root process you need to use or something like that. But the power and volume down button thing doesn't work for me. I also get that it renders your warranty useless (don't mind) and that it can brick your phone but can be fixed? I would just really appreciate it if someone could give me a guide on how to root my phone and remove system apps and that's really all I want to do, no ROMs or anything. I've also read something about one click rooting? If this is an easy way to root, please explain it to me? I am really sorry for the long post but any help really is appreciated. Thanks! :D

Welcome to Android Forums :hello:

There is no truly one-click solution to rooting an HTC phone. Please follow the guide here to successfully root the phone.
http://androidforums.com/wildfire-s-all-things-root/480954-guide-how-root-wildfire-s-s-finally.html

The guide is thorough and will minimize the chances of you bricking the phone.

Once it's rooted, post back and I'll walk you through deleting unused apps and maximizing memory, which will be the easy part.

Hope that helps!

Edit: BTW, I've moved your post into the All Things Root section since it pertains to rooting.

I'm also new to Android phones and just got a Wildfire S. However, even after installing just a few apps I'm running into low memory issues.

After rooting what can one expect in terms of available memory after deleting most of the preinstalled apps? And, can one install apps just to the SD card instead of using the internal memory.

I'd like to keep the WFS but if memory will be an issue even after rooting I might just go with the LG Optimus Elite (1GB internal memory) since it costs the same.

I'd appreciate your thoughts on this.

I have rooted mine recently, then partitioned the SD card and used Link2SD and I my internal memory is varying between 75 and 90mb.

After I finally got the Link2SD thing worked out, I decided to push it as far as I could and had almost 200 apps on there before it started screaming at me about it. :) The Optimus Elite I had before this one took about 50 apps to start boot-looping, and crashing. And I don't think there's anything more annoying than that start screen.

PS. Before I put Angry Birds on mine (which is something like 16mb) I had like 80mb free and afterwards had like 95. It was going in reverse. Cute huh?

Not to intrude but I have links2sd. And I'm still having issues with running out of space. I don't see how people have over 20 apps, because that's about where I am. It's at the point where I have to constantly clear the cache to do anything.

Did you enable ' auto link' option on Link2sd settings....?

also don't move apps to SD card but just create links for application, library and dalvik cache files by selecting each installed apps on Link2sd.

This will certainly create about 70-80 mb space.

Hope this may useful. If really press 'Thanks' :)
