Windows XP Drag/Drop Copies: Not Working?

First thing, I re-installed the drivers (at least I assume that's part of the Kies install process) from http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/GT-N7000ZBAXEU-downloads\Kies_2.5.0.12094_27_11.exe

Things changed, but folder access is still weird. When I drag/drop, the "Copying" pops up immediately, and the progress bar goes to 100%, but then it throws "Error Copying File: Cannot copy defrault.bcn: The device has either stopped respronding or has been disconnected."

The Note's screen is still there - i.e. auto-lock has not kicked in.

After I cancel the process, my PC seems to hang when I try to open either "Phone" or "Card" on the Note. Yank the USB cable, and the PC starts working again.

FWIW, the attempted copy was from the external SD card to the internal SD card.

Anybody been here? Maybe the wrong source for drivers?

Your phone being seen as a device or as separate external drives? What i mean to say is, when you open MyComputer, do you see the Galaxy Note there? Or just two drives? If you are seeing the Note, which you have to open to see the internal and external sd cards, copying from the internal sd to external wont work, no idea why. On my phone i have to set it to mass storage mode to be able to do that. At least that's my experience.

Thanks. I was unaware of the distinction until now.

Stumbled on this: How To Use Your Android Phone as a USB Drive

But cannot make it work for me under Window XP.

I think I'll just do the workaround of yanking the SD card and inserting it into my Windows 7 laptop.

Are you connecting in MTP mode ore as storage? These are the options you get on newer Samsung phones and I believe MTP mode is problematic with XP.

It's defaulted to MTP mode and I have been unable to make Disc Drive mode work with my instance of XP Pro SP3.

Settings > More > USB Utilities > USB Mass Storage > Connect storage to PC
does, however, work A-OK on my Windows 7 laptop.

The brass ring for me would be some non-root utility that defaults my Note to a Disc Drive mode that works with XP. Just click it and leave it in Disc Drive mode until I have some need for MTP.
