Root Sprint HTC Evo 4g to Straight talk?

I hope this hasn't been asked a million times already and if so, I apologoize in advance.

I have a horrible, horrible phone through Straight Talk. I'm talking, like Zach Morris would have laughed at this phone. This girl I'm seeing has offered to give me her Sprint HTC Evo 4g.

Is this phone even flashable to Straight talk? If so, where should I even start? I'm a complete noob to modern phones but I'm very tech savvy and could pick it up if given a nudge in the right direction. Thank you so much for your help and I look forward to hearing from anyone that would be kind enough to help. Thanks again!

Thank you. I might check into switching to those carriers or maybe even tinkering with those tuts and seeing what I can do with them. Would calling straight talk customer service help my cause at all?

As far as bringing a phone onto straight talk. I could be wrong but their smart phones are gsm (sim card) and the only way to bring a phone from another carrier, it needs to be gsm and they will give you a special sim without the need to unlock that particular phone. I haven't seen a guide to flashing to straight talk though.

I do believe as well the only carriers our sprint phones can be flashed to are virgin mobile, metro, and boost. Feels like I'm forgetting one more.

Also the reason phones can't be flashed to straight talk, all of their CDMA phones begin with one particular number in their ESN. If any phone your trying to activate on straight talk doesn't begin with that number, 9 I'm thinking. It won't work. I've been with straight talk before and tried porting an all tel phone to them. No go.

I was just looking into the Straight Talk service. I have a Sprint HTC EVO 3D 4G.
I came across this page. I read on ST website that their service isn't compatible with CDMA phones. I.E. VERIZON and Sprint.
I watched a YouTube video of a guy that flashes phones. He says he's using a Sprint phone on ST. Obviously you can't believe everything you see on the internet. And I can't post the link.
I just want verification that even if my phone was flashed that it won't work on ST.

Straight Talk gets service from all the major carriers. Depending on what phone you have you get service from some carrier. All their old phones phones used to be on Verizon (I'm talking 6 months to a year after they initially opened). Soon after they got service from AT&T and Sprint and TMobile soon after. All their early Android phones were on Sprint. Some of their later/recent Android phones are on Verizon. You can tell my looking at the PRL the phone is on.

You can flash an Evo over to Straight Talk. Read the guides. That is the way to do it. If you stick to their Sprint based phone you'll have better luck.

Off the top of my head... get a ST Precedent. It is a Straight Talk branded Prevail from Boost. Use that phone to start up service. Once you have that phone humming along then delve into how to use that phone's information to overwrite the Evo and get your service on the Evo instead of the Precedent.

Do not get a brand new Precedent. Get a used one. Preferably one that is falling apart. Scratched up, beat up no matter. All you need from it is for it to work long enough for you to get the information off of it.

I own an HTC EVO 4G, which I recently rooted. I am interested in flashing my phone to Straight Talk prepaid service since is it considerably less expensive than my Sprint unlimited plan.

If I did this, I would purchase the donor phone, thus owning both handsets. Upon completion, I would take the battery out of my donor phone and lock it in a box.

Can anyone offer some direction on flashing my rooted Sprint EVO 4G over to Straight Talk?

Also, if I flashed it over, is there a method to flash it back to Sprint in the future if I ever found that necessary?

ok so i merged your posts together to this thread.

i have never flashed to another network but here is what i know:

you basically will need a donor phone from straight talk make sure that it is a cdma phone. there is a post here in this thread that mentions which one would be a good one to use.

you will then need to use cdma workshop to change the esn and radios over to your evo 4g. how to do this for straight talk, i do not know. but you can try using this guide for references:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/460035-evo-4g-boost-mobile-guide.html

edit: one thing though is the cdma workshop is not free. however, there is plenty of "cracked" versions of it laying around the internet. just google it. but be forewarned, they might come with viruses. the actual version is not free and is quite expensive. but, you do not have to worry about infecting your computer.

I would like to point out as Kolosus did the samsung galaxy precent, or however its spelled is the same phone as the prevail, so you should be able to use the cracked version of cdma ws to send the default samsung password then close cdma ws and open QPST efs explorer and pull the nv item 466 from it then open with winhex and find the profile 0 HA and AAA key from there.
After that you will want the mms url should be able to get that by using the dialer menu ##3282# go to advanced and go down till you find mms url and just copy that information to put into the evo.
You would use the boost guide for most of the rest, changing esn, using QPST to enter the profile 0 keys in the evo etc.

I have seen Sprint Evo's that were flashed to Straight Talk. What I have NOT seen however after SEVERAL hours of searching is a guide on how to do it anywhere on the internet. I know this thread is old, but the EVO 4g and many others can be brought to straight talk for a small fee. I paid $16. They just need the IMEI#.

The only pain is you need your MSL, which you can get with MSL reader from play store. This needs root, which, why have a phone if it isn't. So, root it before ya call.

Once rooted, call ST, go thru the prompts to get to the BYOP program, pay the fee, then, dial ##72786# from your dialer, enter msl, then I believe its either reset, or delete the info. then reboot. Theres limited stuff you can do in that menu.

You need to do this everytime you add airtime. Pain in the ass, but it works.

Also, must use a stock rom... We nandroided the stock rom, then use another rom for daily use. You gotta use stock with sense to add service. Then you can flash/restore your favorite rom.

I was given an HTC Evo 4G and from what research I came up with. All you need is an activation kit. It comes with a SIMs card, but you don't need it.

Just follow the steps in the activation kit to get your phone hooked up to straight talk. You can find the activation kit at walmart or you can purchase it online...

I just rooted my wife's old Sprint HTC EVO 4G and it works with Net10 (a subsidiary of TracFone like ST). I used the BYOP phone option in NET10 and entered the information for my phone and everything went smoothly on that side. I woke up and the websit showed that the port was finished from T-Mobile. They wanted me to follow the final setup of ##72786# and I needed MSL. So I rooted my phone to use a program got MSL did the ## thing and cleared the information that was there restarted and didnt work so I installed custom firmware that was recommended here on the 2.3.5 root guide and when it finished and rebooted all the settings updated and are working. Phone is getting the best reception we have had in our black hole neighborhood and phone is running amazing with the custom rom. Try Net10.
