I am agree with you .screen does not goes off every time during call. It should works every time like other set having real visible sensors on right of the top of screen.
Another thing you may noticed that our ph does not have any Auto Brightness control, even non of the third party auto brightness control apps work for us.

Yes, true.
But for me, the screen does go out at times when I hold in a specific position, I dont know how.
And as for auto brightness control , even xperia X8i never had it although it had both the sensors.

guys there is a proximity sensor which turns off the display during a call.
dial some customer care no. and put your palm on the top half of the phone,
its a little slow but the display turns off
and then gets back when you remove your hand.

u guys confused me
if its about light sensor which detects ambient light and ADJUSTS brightness accordingly
then its NOT present.
If its about proximity sensor which TURNS OFF display when you are making a call and turns it back on after it,
then it works fine and is located near the earpiece.

What about two fingers swipe up/down gestures(multi touch point) -is it works for a87 ? I have tried with two different launchers having this feature , but unsuccessful. It works for my HTC set with ics . Can anybody confirm is this feature only available for 4.0+?
Dudes, there are two sensors..for proximity..ones between the lock button and the screen (very thoroughly vanished)..and the other ones on the left side..
Dial *#*#1111#*#*
to do an assembly test..
And it gives u the position..
And no it runs with hardware..not any programmed binary..
