Will an OTG USB to MicroSD adapter work for file storage?

I'm hoping someone has tried this and can give me a definitive answer. With an adapter like this: Amazon.com: eForCity Micro USB OTG to USB 2.0 Adapter Compatible with Google Nexus 7: Electronics

Can you attach a flash drive or card reader, to expand the storage capacity? Or is does this adapter only work for peripherals like a keyboard or mouse?

I saw another post about this adapter working for file storage on a rooted device, but that post author was unsure if it worked on non-rooted devices. I am leaning towards the ASUS Infinity because of the expandable memory and the brighter screen, but if I could use a flash drive or card reader when I really needed it, the 16GB Nexus 10 becomes a more viable option.

If you can confirm this does or does not work, I would appreciate it!

I have one similar ordered but haven't gotten it yet. Yes, you can attach flash drives, etc to the OTG cable. If you aren't rooted, you can use an OTG cable and Nexus Media Importer. The only drawback is you can't write anything to what you have connected. You can only import or stream. You would have to be rooted and using stickmount to be able to write to your flash drive or whatever.

I ordered the exact same cable but from Newegg because of delivery times... Days versus weeks. I am on a rooted Nexus 10 and use stickmount and I can copy from and write to an USB flash drive like a champ. A friend of mine has a non rooted Nexus 7 and is using the above mentioned Nexus media app. As stated he can copy and stream from the flash drive but can't write to it.
