Looking for the best free wifi tether app for the sgs2.
I currently use FoxFi but will be dumping that. I was recently forced to update it (it would not work until I updated) then after the update it has the 1.5 Mb limit on it. I refuse to purchase the app from them after that.
I would like to use a data share app for use on a rooted or non rooted device. I do not have the tether plan and so cannot use any of the wifi apps that simply relaunch the built in wifi sharing app.

I am willing to pay for an app if I have to (but it will NOT be foxfi).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have root, use Wifi Tether for Root Users.

If you set the device profile to "generic ICS/JB (Wlan 0)" and the setup method to "auto" it will provide you with true infrastructure tethering (as opposed to ad-hoc) which will allow any device to connect to the phone. Including other smart phones.

I've done as you suggest, but I can't get another phone to connect or even "see" it. Do I need to do something else? Thanks.

I just set it up this way less than a week ago for a friend on this exact same device. That's was all I had to do... those two settings and it worked fine, I connected my nexus7 to it as well as a marquee and a prevail. When you start it do you get an error? (Menu > show log)

Do you have 'WiFi driver reload' turned on?

I have setup this tether on my Galaxy S; setting all three of those issues (wlan0, auto, wifi driver reload) and I am still not able to see the tethered network when I scan for SSID.

I no longer have access to the s2, but could you try this version of the app?

It works on my galaxy rush.
