Agghhhh I hate Microsoft (yet I don't think I will get rid of my xbox)

Grrrrrrr I just got off the phone (40 mins) with microsoft and all I got from it was that I have to pay $100 if I want my xbox fixed and that if I had called when I actually got the RRoD (instead of taking a break video games for a while) I may have gotten it fixed free.
P.S. skip to bottom if you don't want to read my venting and just want to try to help me decide what to do.

Heres the back story. Ok so at least a month ago I got the RRoD and figured I would wait a while before I actually get it fixed (I thought I had time). I finally look online and see that I would have to pay $100 to get it fixed so I decide to hold off for a while since I really don't want to pay to get my same crappy motherboard fixed (original mobo-xenon) since it will most likely just get the RRoD again. About a week later I start looking at the site again and see that my 3 yr warrany should end april 19th (but im still being asked to pay $100). So I call the 800 number and am told that my xbox will be fixed for free and that I will be sent a shipping label. I wait for about 5 days and never get an email, so I email MS and wait for a response, after 3 or 4 days I end up calling MS again and after 40 minutes (39mins 47secs (yes I love my droid :) )) I find out my 1 yr warranty ended later than my 3 yr because when I got my xbox fixed the first time it was out of 1 yr but not 3 yr so they added time to the 1 yr. Basically Microsoft made me mad about having to pay, then got my hopes up, then smashed my hopes to pieces (while wasting time I could have used to try to get some of the $100 I need to get my xbox fixed).

WOW that was a lot of writing. Well at least now I vented and am less peeved then before.

I have got some ideas about what to do, what do you guys think? Should I just pay MS $100, send it in and wait a few weeks for it to be fixed? Should I try to sell it as is and maybe sell some accessories and buy a new arcade? or something else? The one thing I don't think i'm going to do is xclamp or anything like that because my error code says general system failure, and I don't think the cpu or gpu are the problem (especially because I got an E__ error before that had nothing to do with either).

Thanks for any help (and for reading lol).

I no it may seem outrageous, but when my original launch year 360 died out of warrenty I just bought an arcade, slapped my harddrive in and it was good to go. I mainly did this because the repair only comes with a 1 year warrenty whereas a new arcade comes with 3. I feel your pain though man. Good luck.

Thanks, I think thats what i'm going to do. The only reason I have really been contemplating it is because I just spent almost $300 on new speakers and a new head-unit for my truck (which are great by the way) plus I have gas and car insurance to worry about. I also just got a better job for the summer so I guess I should just go for it. :)

If you're staying with Xbox I'd suggest spending the extra 40 bucks and getting a new arcade for $199. Sucks to hear about your situation. I was fortunate enough to be able to send my 360 with the three rings of death to MS and have it fixed for free under my warranty. Lately I've been considering on maybe making a switch to PS3 (even though their latest updates have been a bit screwy).

gamestop (and similar regional stores) sell refurb'd units for less than $200. they have warranties. could save you a little extra money if you so choose.

I was thinking of that, but I found that dell is selling a new xbox 360 arcade for $160. This seems like the best deal to me since the refurbs are probably the older motherboards that have a higher chance of failure. Thanks for the idea though.

Thats what i'm going to do. The first time i got the RRod I got it fixed for free. I also have considered the ps3 but I already have games and accessories for the xbox, plus most of my friends have xboxes so I don't think switching is worth it.
