New Battery (HTC EVO V 4G)

Just bought a set of "Sensation" replacement OEM Batteries with charger for $12 US
Marked as 2450mAh ( stock HTC EVO 3D is 1700mAh) but most likely like all OEM's a bogus, made-up number that sounds cool! ( look at how it's displayed on the battery )

2X 2450mAh Gold Battery Charger for HTC Sensation 4G G14 G18 G21 Sprint EVO 3D | eBay

Not selling, nothing to with the dealer, just a report of my findings and a simple question:

Showed up in a week, both batteries work, and power the phone. Charger works changes color when charging complete. There temperature seems to be acceptable.

I installed and ran (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nema.batterycalibration&hl=en) battery calibration to run a fair test. Cycled both batteries through 2 full discharges ( down to 1% ) then full charge ( 100% ) and they preform as good as or a TINY bit better then stock ( running on Midnight 3.4.5 normal to slightly under-clocked and HTCCM10 build 20130102 )

Ok now to my question, or observation and concern. The price of $12 is WAY too little :( most people tell me this must be rejected HTC batteries re-branded. I understand that 2450mAh is just a made up, meaningless number. So if it lasts me 6 months or maybe a year then I'm more then happy, but there is no way to tell when or if they will fail or how.

Q 1 ) By cheeping out, will they thermal? Could have a meltdown in my pocket?
So far it has not, but it's still cheap crap from China, every day it holds a little less charge
Q 2 ) So I created a new "batterystats.bin" file that matches them, how will that effect changing ROM's I like the ability to switch between "stock-ish" Midnight 4.0.3 and 4.1.x HTCCM10
Has no impact, only used to draw a pretty graph. Phone reads from chip in the battery
Q 3) How come TWRP does not have a function to clear the "batterystats.bin" file. I assume it backs it up or does it? I think a cool function would be to have 2 to 3 backups of "batterystats.bin" so say if you put back in your stock battery you can switch back to it's profile, etc.
Never got an answer but it's a moot point since it does nothing important

Update:
to sum-up this thread with an overall recommendation is:
1) The "Seidio" brand uses higher quality materials and is generally recommended ( they are made in Japan rather then China ). Anker is also highly recommended but based on people's very positive experiences. Bottom line only go with a known good brand not what's deal of the day on eBay.
2) The Seidio "Platinum Series" - 2X Extended Life Lithium-Polymer Battery ( there single cell is 1900mAh x2 should be around 3,800mAh ) for HTC EVO 3D is currently ( as of this writing ) being dumped, no idea how long the deal will last:

Amazon.com: Platinum Series - 2X Extended Life Lithium-Polymer Battery for HTC EVO 3D: Cell Phones & Accessories
$9 + s/h
Platinum Se 2X Extended Life HTC EVO 3D Li-Po Battery - CowBoom.com
$7 + s/h ( which came out to be $12 for me my lucky number :p )

3) Your phone talks to the battery and if you get all the readouts then the battery works. With that said the quality of the battery determines how much power is stored after daily charging. That is the stock battery is 1700mAh not because it sucks but that number is an average of it's 2.5 year life expectancy. Thus eBay marketeers set there life to weeks if not months to get outrageous numbers. ( This from my research around and asking fellow EE's )

Thanks for everyone's input, I hope this helps others BEFORE they click "buy now"

All good valid points! I used an Anker Battery for my Triumph before it died.
I bought my phone for $50 used from a close friend ( thus the deep discount ) was not looking to spend $18 + $12 shipping per battery. I find that when I travel I really need 2x battery and an external charger. I guess you could go with a 4000mAh big boy battery, but then your phone is big and will not fit anything.
SEIDIO | Innocell Super Extended Life Battery for HTC EVO 3D But at $75 it's costly ( please note that they make a belt clip that effectively gives you a otter-box like solution )

We all agree that each of these batteries could only be 1700 to 1900 mAh and Quality is KING!
I wish I knew about the Platinum - " Lithium Japanese Cells " I will have to look in to that.

So far the battery lasts 8 to 10 hours of light to normal usage. It lasts 5 to 7 hours if I'm in manic check my phone every 15 minute mode, play mp3's and watch an hour of netfilx. So they work, question is for how long? I'm hoping to get 6 months out of a $12 dollar investment, I think that an aggressive "hope" but fair.

I can recommend this 3400mah battery since I bought one back in September when it was the deal of the day. It adds some bulk to the phone but works well and the replacement cover fits unlike some of those shipped with the Seidio extended batteries.

BTW, CowBoom is part of BestBuy if you're not familiar with them and missed the logo near the top of that page.

Cool! that does look good! again Wish I knew about Platinum before this!

Not to worry I do have a
Amazon.com: EZOPower Dual USB Output Portable Solar External Backup Battery Charger 6000MAH for Smartphones / E-readers / MP3 Players and More USB Powered Devices: Cell Phones & Accessories
For $30 it has 2 USB charging ports that offer 1A of power so you can charge the phone and say an iPad. At 6,000mAh it can charge about 6 to 8 phones as needed ( handy when going to geek shows like Maker Fair and needing to charge all your buddies phones since they are stupid ). Just note the solar cell just tops it off work well in a car front window.

Where can I get more info on the "batterystats.bin" file? Want to understand more what it does, how Android uses it, etc.
Not much, according to Dianne Hackborn, a Google engineer.

It's only used to record the stats for the display of battery life in system settings and has nothing to do with extending battery life. The only reason to delete it when the battery is fully charged is to document a full cycle of your battery life in those stats.

There is also some disagreement on "conditioning" lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries by using cycles of complete discharging and full recharging, which is something that definitely increased the charge capacity of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Based on what I've read, it seems to be unnecessary for Li-On batteries.

I'm really ( at the end of the day ) only concerned that if I'm at 15% I really got that much juice left not really 2% etc.

The battery has 4 connections 2 are of course positive and ground, the other should be to a thermistor out ( battery temp data ) but the last one should be data. How to test that this battery or any battery is functioning correctly? I have yet to find a real test. Removing the batterystats.bin file seems to be a red herring.

I am going to snag the platinum battery as I am a prime member. What are some good cases that fit with the extended cover? This cover is extended the whole way right, not just at the battery?

I am not getting a good feeling about the Laza battery. I ordered 2 days ago and estimated shipping arrival is the 18th. As of now, it still doesn't list as shipped. Sent an email to the seller, no response as of yet, even Amazon says not available till the 19th. I wonder when I will actually get mine, I have a feeling it might include negative feedback to the seller.
