Please help a brand new Droid Eris user

I just dumped my BB Tour today and picked up a Droid Eris. Love it so far but have a couple of questions that so far I haven't been able to figure out.

1. How do I set different notifications for each email acct I have? I currently have 3 accts set up and I"d like a different sound and a different volume for each? Can I do that or does the notification/volume stay the same for all 3 accts?

2. On my calendar that is synced with Google, it only shows the last month of calendar activities. Why is that? Can't I go further back? On my BB, I could go back and see all my calendar entries from 2009 if I wanted.

3. On Google maps on my laptop and BB, I could access "My Maps" which had about 100 addresses all mapped out. I don't see an option under Eris' Google maps to see "my maps". I downloaded "Google Maps My Editor" but it just said "Loading" forever. Nothing ever came up. Any ideas?

4. This may sound stupid but how do I get ringtones, wallpapers on the Eris? I thought I could just plug it into my laptop, and then just drag the files over to the phone, but the laptop doesn't recognize the Eris. What do I do now?

Thank you so much in advance for the help. So far, I love Android!

Welcome to the forum. We have a lot of former BlackBerry users here.

#1 - For most sound setting you have to go into the app itself and adjust the notification sound. Most of the time it is listed under settings. There isn't, unfortunately, a profiles option like the BlackBerries have. As for setting each to different volumes, I don't think it can be done. There is one master notification volume for the phone. I recommend Tone Picker for setting sounds to different apps. You could also try Profile Manager or Quick Profiles. Audio Manger is also an excellent app for controlling the phones volume.

#2 - I think that Google Calendar is only set up to sync so much information (date ranges) back and forth for the phone. I am not sure what the exact time frame is, but I have a feeling it is limited to save space.

#3 - If you open google maps and press Menu > Layers > More Layers My maps should be the first option at the top.

#4 - As dirtmouth said, you can use a file manager to place things in folders and use them from there. Tone Picker that I already talked about works well once you have them in a folder. You can also download them with apps like Zedge or Mabilo.

I know you didn't ask, but figured I would let you know that there are some great sites to look at apps while on your computer. Many/most have screen shots and even video showing how the apps look.

I hope I can save more than just the previous month's worth of calendar entries. I need to go back 3,4,5 months sometimes for work. I'll keep searching...

When I open up Google Maps and hit menu, I don't have a Layers choice. I did on my Tour but not on the Eris. I'm not sure if it's an older version. I hope someone can help me as I use the "My Maps" A TON! Someone had previously posted that I could use the starred feature for favorite places, but if the phone ever has to be swapped out etc, those starred icons are all gone. I like the My Maps because they're available for any phone I have (well apparently not on my Eris), as long as I just log into my Google acct.

You always have the option of using the browser to view your Google calendar. That will let you go back as far as you like. I just double checked my calendar and I actually am able to go back for several months. This may be an option for the 2.1 OS or it may be that the information has not synced fully yet. I apologize for my earlier misstatement. I believe I was actually thinking of Google sync for blackberry.

You may want to check the market for updates to Google maps. There have been quite a few as of late. I now the option is available to those running the newer 2.1 leak as I am, but I thought that layers was available on all versions.

I wonder why I can't go back that far. Everything is gone prior to March 18th. I've had my phone activated since like 1:30pm today. At least I can go online to check past dates when I need to. Forgot about that--thanks

I checked Google Maps and it says I already have it installed but I don't see any version # on Android Market. I also sent myself an email link from Google's website to see if a newer version would overwrite my older version(if it is indeed an old version) and it also said I already have Google Maps installed. I have ver 3.1.2 on my Eris. I know I had ver 4.1 on my Tour. Should I delete the Google Maps and then re-download it?

You may want to try syncing your calendar again. You also might want to double check and make sure the information is in your calendar from a computer.

You can't remove Google maps. It is a stock app and those locked to the phone. When you go to the market look at downloads or my downloads to see if any updates are available. Like I said though, they may have been for 2.1 only. You can also put the address info in each of your contacts and bring them up that way if nothing else works. It would be a bit of a pain, but can be done faster through gmail.

On #2, I just checked my phone, and my calendar entries go back to early November. It's weird, though - I don't see anywhere to set that.

I did buy my phone in early December. Perhaps it only goes back a month from when you purchased, going forward from there? That would be weird, but...

I just double checked mine again and I can go back to November for full calendar entries. I also got mine in December. The only thing I have beyond November are birthdays, holidays and other repeat events.

I had shared or converted my calendar over from another acct around the Mar 18th date and I'm wondering if that's the problem. I think I did something wrong in the process. I did notice that I entered a date in Feb in my phone calendar and then synced with my laptop, and nothing on my google calendar on my laptop showed the added Feb item. It seems to only be syncing from the laptop to the phone. How do I change that?

I had originally had "my maps" and my calendar set up under another email address/user name. I then set up my current gmail account w/email. I then merged the calendar and my maps over to my new acct and I have a feeling this is what is causing the problem, although I"m not sure.

I did log into my google account via laptop and went into my settings for all google apps. I created a new my maps in there using my new gmail accout name. When i opened Google maps in my phone, I still have no option to choose layers. I love google but it can be damn frustrating at times!

I almost wonder if I"d be better off re-entering all my calendar entries in under my new google acct just to see if they would all show up correctly? Lot of work..ugh..

I'm still at a loss on the google/my maps/layers issue
