Help Android System Using Battery?

I just got my GS4 a couple days ago and I've noticed that Android System is using most of my battery. It's always well over 50%. I haven't noticed the battery draining, so it doesn't concern me that much. But I'm curious as to whether or not this is normal and if not, how I can fix it.

I did see a few other threads on the issue for other phones, but it seems it's probably not something I can fix without rooting my phone.

But when I woke up this morning and checked my battery stats, the phone went from around 100% to 87% while I was asleep. Since I obviously wasn't using the phone during this time, I'd expect Phone Idle to be the highest in the battery stats.

I think my Samsung Galaxy Nexus going from 100% to 15% while I slept has me paranoid of poor battery life with my GS4. :afraid:

See on mine Google Services is running at a high percentage, but battery life has been good.

Android System, Android OS and Google Services do tend to take the most power when idle. Google Services, I'm guessing has to do with everything syncing in the background e.g. BackUps and so on, the other two I'm not sure, but in my experience it is normal.

Draining from 100% to 87% while idle is quite a lot though, but seeing as you got your GS4 a couple of days ago I'd say your battery still needs more time to reach full capacity, a few more charge cycles and it should get better. If I go to sleep with mine at 100 I'll wake up with it at around 95-98%, that's around 7 or so hours in idle.

Thanks for the info! I actually just fully charged the phone and it's been off the charger for 45 minutes. The battery is down to 95% with Android System, surprisingly, only using 5% of the battery. Interesting to see such a big change since Android System was using the most battery ever since I got the phone on Friday.

I realized a little while ago that my battery may not have been fully charged when I put the phone down for the night, so the battery might not have drained that much overnight. But I'm definitely going to check the battery in the morning and get an exact idea of how much the battery drains during the night.

Well, I checked the battery this morning to see it dropped 10% while the phone sat idle overnight. Phone Idle used 45% of the battery, Android OS used 24%, and then Cell Standby at 14%. Those were the highest, but Screen, Mediaserver, Maps, Android System, etc. were lower.

So, it seems the high Android System battery use is gone after yesterday's reboot and charge. But the phone does seem to use quite a bit of battery while not in use. Perhaps I'll try turning off Light Flow at night and see if that helps. Otherwise maybe it'll just take some time for things to work themselves out since it's still a new phone.
