Help Screen Goes Blank on Calls

Hi Guys

Had a HTC desire now for a couple of weeks and Ive come across an annoying problem, when I make or recieve a call and raise the phone to my head the screen goes blank which in it's self is fine, but after the call has concluded the screen remains blank and there appears to be know why to get it to leap back into life ive tried moving/jiggling the phone and pressing all the buttons including the power, the only way seems to be to remove the battery and force a reboot.

Anyone else experienced this or have any ideas that might help solve it?

I have never done it before so have taken this information from the "knowyourcell" website. I take no responsibility should anything go wrong :p

  1. Turn the power off. If your HTC Desire is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
  2. Hold the Volume Down button
  3. Press and release the Power button
  4. You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
  5. Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
  6. Press and release the Power button
  7. Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
If you select YES, all data including third-party applications will be deleted from the HTC Desire. Once the wipe is complete, the phone will reboot to its factory fresh state.

DO NOT DO THIS!!

There are ways to fix problems without completely wiping your phone, jaspabt please, only recommend this as a last resort once we have tried other things. Wiping the phone is last resort only.

We'll see if anyone else has had this issue first. SteveRoebuck can I ask are you using generic firmware? Who have you got your phone with?

Was a bit late for me, I did it and lost quite a bit of info and apps which caused me a few problems but got it all sorted back have access to everything again, my own fault for not reading or backing up.

The phone is from vodafone and it looks pretty much untouched by the voda monkies.

I spoke to there tech department last night and I can get a replacement handset as they seem to think its faulty. Im ok with this as I think the battery is a bit pants, it managed 7 hours of very very light use yesterday after 9 hours on charge.

Cheers

ok i have this problem aswell, thought ild give it a bit to see if it was just me.

when you make a call, the screen goes blank, but when is it ment to 'un-blank' ??

ive tried moving it, shaking it, power button, pressing screen and calling it many words, but it just stays blank for about a minute. not quite asbad as having to reboot but still annoying esp since i cant hang up on anyone!

I get this. It's a bit annoying.

Like someone said, there's a few seconds where nothing seems to happen so you mash a few buttons and shake it about then the screen randomly kicks in and you can end the call.

I've not got mine in a case when it happens.

Ha! That's exactly what I do! It's really annoying if you're calling some call centre where they're telling you to "Press 1", "Press 2" etc...and you look at the phone and there's no freakin numbers to press! Like you, I just mash a few buttons and hope I don't get cut off in the process!!

I also get this blanking issue where the blanking does not turn off.

If the phone doesn't connect it seems to stay blank forever (until battery removal).

If the phone connects it is random as to whether it comes back when I remove the phone from my ear - which is really bad if I need to enter a selection through the keypad.

If I don't trip proximity sensor (ie use loudspeaker then this isnt an issue) but if I do then there seems no way to get back to the screen sometimes.

Is this normal - I hope there is a fix ? Is there a way to turn off the proximity sensor or .......?

I found my problem !!!!

I have a ZAGG "Invisible Skin" screen protector on the phone. now I guess that isn't 100% invisible - because as soon as I removed that from the device the issue went away - the skin must be enough to keep the proximity sensor active

Probably same issue with others - I will cut a strip off the top of the screen and re-apply - will also contact Zagg to let them know of the issue

hi all!

got the same issue on my desire! screen wents black immediately when launching a number and there is no way to get it back on other than removing battery!

especially when calling my combox, this is annoying - waiting for minutes without being able to hang up nor deleting messages, etc.

is there any function to manually get back the screen, even if the sensor does not realise changed position of the phone?

thanks
