Questions concerning the LG Motion 4G and Jellybean

I've owned an LG Motion 4G for a little over three months. So far, I've been very impressed, but I feel it's lacking something. That something is Jellybean. Now, I know there isn't going to be an official release, but I've caught wind of a few unofficial methods of attaining Jellybean. The only problem is I don't know much about them. My point is, I know it's possible, but I still have questions concerning them.

Which is the best, most bug-free way to update to JellyBean?

Will I have to delete my files and programs?
If I do, is there a way to back them up?

Will it interfere with my cell service?

I would greatly appreciate any replies to these questions. Thanks!​

If you are this concerned about installing jellybean, maybe you should first try rooting. You will have to root to get to jellybean.

Now installing jellybean, you will have to backup everything before starting the process. You can use titanium backup to backup, BUT move the backup to the external sd card after the backup is done. Move anything else from the internal sd to external. You will have to be rooted to do this and grant the file explorer root permissions and other permissions that i cant remember since I am not rooted at the moment (been trying other root metbods that dont require a PC).
If you have text messages you want to save, search Google play store for text message export. You will also have to move that file to external sd after exporting it. Most files are obvious to find (files are found in folders named after the app).

As far as functionality, everything works, 4G also works but it shows as a 1x icon (radio issue). The in-call volume is a little low even on speaker. I've heard of some problems recording video in 1080p that I can't confirm nor deny (never recorded anything with the camera).

Okay, thanks. I don't think this upgrade is tight for me, but I have considered rooting, if anything for my file managers to work better, and to get o.e pf those on-screen recorder apps.

I do have a couple questions about rooting though. What are the risks? Will it interfere with any of my hardware, or pre-existing data, or is it just one of those things that will only go as far as you let it?

I was also wondering about just installing Google Now, which is all I really want fron JB. Will I be risking anything, or have to back everything up (which I will do anyways once I'm rooted just for security)? And is there a way to do it without gnow handlebars and messing with my rom (dedoxing, I think it was called, but I could be wrong)?

basically, I just want to know what I'm risking, what it costs, and how to do it if I decide to take that route.

There are no risks unless you remove apps that have been said not to remove. You won't lose anything. Make a backup with CWM 2nd init recovery (do not use ROM Manager) in case you flash something you shouldnt have. You do not need a deodexed rom for Google Now, I was able to install many mods while on stock rooted.

Call volume is pretty low, and regardless of what anyone says gps doesn't work for most people in unofficial jb either

Common ROM Problems (Unnoficial JB, CM 10.1 ROMS, ETC)

-Low call volume

-Purple 1080p Video Recording (720p does fine)

-Camera loose quality (I did a comparison personally between Stock and JB Unofficial Camera, Stock won hands down, and yes both were at highest camera quality)

-GPS is glitchy depending user

-4G works but you get a 1X/3G Icon (depending ROM) and for some reason that I have noticed, Coverage is more glitchy. I get less coverage on these ROMS than I do on Stock. Weird much?

-Others can add to this list, just quote and add so if you find more issues -

Thanks for all the help. I think I'll pass on the Jellybean, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to root. The next step will be to find a way to get Google Now on my phone without much trouble. A file merge seems promising, but I've read that it's glitchy and sometimes doesn't work at all. I'll play around with it, and post here if I have any more questions. This has been very helpful.

Exactly how I felt... Google Now for me is epic on my tablet but not worth the work on my phone... (Phone is disconnected...has no service) but root is a must have on any Android device, especially for people who know how to do it Good luck rooting...

Also no video chat and can't make videos on instagram.... I guess the only problem really is videos lol
