LG G2 KitKat speculations

Here is the response I got from LG if Kitkat would come to the G2:

Q: will you update the G2 to android 4.4 Kitkat? Other manufacturers have indicated which phones and when to expect the update.

A: thank you for inquiring. Currently, the only device that will get the kit kat right now is the Nexus 5...keep checking our website for G2 updates. ^CL

The G2 is almost certainly going to get kitkat

The kicker is that the people working the social media of these companies don't have any real information they can give out about future plans

Yes this!
Curious to see how LG skins Kit Kat though seeing as it's a substantial departure from JB. Not terribly concerned as I'm on the custom ROM set at this point running 4.3.1. :)

If it is getting kitkat they could of at least said devices a, b, c will get it and when we have a better timeframe we will release it rather then just say no now. I guess it's not a surprise since LG has always been one of the slowest with updates but you would think with them maxing the nexus devices they would take the lead in updating

Yeah the key word there are "currently" and "right now". Yeah we know we're not getting it right now, it just came out. Never works that way for anything but the Nexus.

The other key words are "keep checking" which means the future is unknown. This phone will likely get 4.4 one day. If LG wants to be taken seriously and rid themselves of their current reputation as sucking with updates, they MUST update this phone to 4.4. I view the LG G2 as their effort to make it to the next level and if they can't provide adequate software updates, they will fail.

That is a response from someone in the Marketing department that then works in the social media group. I can be almost certain that that person doesn't have any idea nor does the person have any real information on the matter. The person merely reported what they know; which is they have no information stating a definitely yes or know. You got the typical canned message.

He didn't say it wasn't. He said right now the only thing he can tell you is that.

A guy over at xda talked to a customer rep and he said that it will get 4.4 but take that with a grain of salt. Either way, I'm sure we will get it.

I chatted with a rep yesterday. Her name was Mariana. I was telling her about the gmail widget issue. Then i asked her about the update.

She said she didn't want to "mislead me", and that at this point LG hasn't said anything official, and also that sometimes she wouldn't be able to reveal some internal information. So, she said she THOUGHT the G2 will get an update in the future , but that at this point she really can't say officially or speculatively. She can guess, but doesn't know.

Not to derail this thread, but how is LG on updates for their phones? This is my first LG phone, as my past two were first generation Samsung Galaxy phones.

The word on the internet is that it isn't good.

But in the past they all sucked. So, it's a matter of whether the G2, GPro, GPad and latest battle against Samsung marks a change in LG or not. If the G2 doesn't get an update or some official announcement by April 2014, then worry.

Thanks for that information, i love the phone for what it is now and even if it doesn't get an update to Android i would be fine with that.

LG would be fools not to announce something soon, if they want to compete with the other big dogs in the android world. They already have a bad reputation of NOT updating their phones. Their time to shine with the LG G2 is now, and they really need to prove themselves that they treat their loyal customers right. (I hope you're reading this LG)

I can tell you that i think there's 100% chance of the g2, g pro and gpad to get at least 1 major update. Most likely it'll be 4.4.

Problem is after that.

They're just skipping 4.3. Nobody except the nexus has 4.4 yet, so there's no need to protest just yet.

I'm guessing that early next year LG will probably release something to take on the Note. Maybe even something with a pen. Who knows. I think they're just playing out of the Samsung playbook. Do what they do, only better.

I think when they release this new device, it will be with 4.4, and then basically update all their recent flagships with the same software 4.4.

It's possible LG takes on the Note with something at CES 2014, then release it after that with reworked software with 4.4, then update all their flagships.

I expect to see an update quarter 1 2014.
