Help How do I transfer data from an old to a new micro sd?

I have an unrooted Milestone running Android 2.1
I am considering buying a bigger micro SD than the 8GB that came with the phone.

My question is: how do I transfer all the data from the old to the new SD?
My data can be copied very banally, but how about data stored by apps on the sd? Are there file attributes, user rights etc that wouldn't be copied if I just connect my Milestone to my pc and use my pc to transfer the data?

My PC runs Win 7 Pro 64 bit, but I can run a live Linux distro if needed.

Thanks!

I would think the easiest way would be to use an adaptor for the Micro card to USB and then dump the smaller card date to a folder on your hard drive and then put the new larger card in and move the data back that way. If you have USB connection between your phone and the PC, you could just use File explorer and move it that way.

Hope this is clear and offers some help.

Thanks! So Android doesn't use a Linux or a custom filesystem on the sd card, i.e. there are no hidden files, file attributes or user rights which would get lost if I transferred the data by coping it to my Windows PC, right?

I'm not sure but you can backup the system files before you move the data. I have had no problems moving SD info from card to card on the Droid but I understand your concern.

Come to think of it, you may be able to backup all the files on the smaller SD card and then just copy the backup from the card to the PC and back to your new SD card and restore. Maybe someone will jump in and enlighten us both.

Good Luck!
