Thinking of going from IPhone to Incredible

The Incredible has really wowed me in the last two weeks. I have been a 3 year iPhone user and have done more than my fair share of jailbreaking in the 3 iPhones I have. I have an iPad and a Macbook pro. I look like a fanboi, but The Incredible has really wowed me, especially because I can tether, run flash, and play nes games. A lot of iPhone owners have gone to the Inc, and seem very happy.

I keep holding back. It's not a contract issue, because I'm on a shared plan. I just have to change it to individual. I'm just not sure. Can you former iPhone owners tell me why you switched, and help me break up with At&T?

I thought about that, but I don't think I want Sprint as a carrier. Not crazy about their coverage.

Plus I'm looking at a 20%-25% discount on service since I work for my city's government (teacher). That's compared to my measly 10% with At&t. And let's face it: we don't care for At&t for coverage. In Connecticut, I get good 3G coverage, but it is very spotty in my school building (and nonexistant in my classroom). I hear the Incredible can get 3G in a subway.

What do you think, former iPhone owners?

Former iPhone user here. Original (yes I waited in line on launch day) and 3G. Switched to Verizon a month ago and couldn't be happier. The Incredible is a great phone and very iPhone-like (in a good way) but also much better in a lot of ways. Personally, if an iPhone came out on Verizon tomorrow, I wouldn't switch from my Incredible. I like it THAT much. Go play with one in a VZ store and see for yourself. ...

I have had the first iPhone and loved it but the network was the problem. I also have an ipad and its also jailbroken now so I can multitask and its great! I also would tether it to my rooted Moto Droid which made it even better! I still have my Droid but now I am using my Incredible and I love it! As soon as we can get root and be able to wireless tether I will be on cloud nine! Bottom line is that the Dinc is a great phone..love the camera, fast processer and Verizon is the clincher. Bottom line to switch...1- Verizon 2- Incredible

I was pretty much in this exact situation about a month ago. Switched to Verizon and the network is worlds better than AT&T. I was an original and 3G owner and the speed of the incredible blows the 3G away (not really sure about the 3GS speed). I never jail-broke either iPhone and will say Android is a much more fulfilling experience. I really like being able to decide what I want to do with the phone. I'm very happy with my decision (although I do keep still keep my iPhone around for the apps). The app store is still a work in progress in my opinion. It feels a lot like the Apple app store from about a year ago. I feel pretty positive about the future of the app store though as I can see how the Apple store evolved in such a short period of time.

I wonder if Verizon will let me trial run this phone.
You have 30 days.

After the first 2 weeks I found myself looking for wifi and using my iPod Touch more and more often because the browser and apps were better. By day 22 I had packed it up and shipped it back. I wasn't interested in taking a step backwards in usability. If you're a social networking addict, it may be the phone for you. None of the friendstream features were useful for me, and aside from being able to dress it up any way I wanted, I couldn't really use it for my workflow. The android VNC apps are all pretty terrible without a physical keyboard. Come to think of it, a lot of apps I tried out were designed with physical keyboards in mind. I found myself wishing I had purchased a Droid instead, and with the Droid 2 just around the corner, I may still do that.

I had a few major hardware gripes about the Incredible:
The AMOLED screen is 100% useless outdoors unless you shade it with your body.
Build quality. This could be a function of them making it thin so it looks sexy, but the case flexes and with all the reports of shattering screens on these forums, I felt like I had to be careful when it was in my pocket. Like i was carrying an egg.
Battery Life. They expect you to buy an after-market battery or charge the phone overnight and at lunch.

The software inadequacies should work themselves out in a few months as developers hop on board, but right now there's too many "gotchas" in going from an iphone > android. It's just not ready for me yet.

In the end, you just need to take inventory of what you need out of your mobile device and make sure it can deliver. Make good use of your 30 days!

In before "go back to your iphone you fanboy"

I work for at&t , and have had an iphone for a few years now!
I made the switch and haven't looked back! Bigger screen, higher resolution, faster, and over all a better phone. Plus the fact that Apple is turning into what microsoft used to be!

Wow. Even AT&T workers are switching? I should look into this then. Maybe by the end of the week. I need to see if it'll be an issue to leave the network. If I have 30 days with Verizon I'll have to do what you say and see if it'll work for me. It's the only way I'll truly be convinced.

The service isn't terrible...unless I'm at work. With the original IPhone, I got no bars. The 3G gave me a small signal and the 3Gs gives me a teetering back and fourth signal. I'm hoping I can get a steady signal with Verizon. I remember my Verizon phone getting zero bars on the coast an hour from my house, though.

I get a lot of dropped calls though.

That's why I'm considering it. It's so much nicer looking and performs great. So I lose out on a few apps. I have iPad for that. Even now as I type this on my iPhone, I'm having performance issues. Does the droid incredible take getting used to if you're coming from an iPhone?

Couple things don't like about the Incredible is it feels cheap compared to the iphone. And iPhone has a ton more quality games. I am a Mac user too and it can be a pain syncing to your phone everything. I love Macs, even like the iPhone but really just go tired of the missing features.

If you don't have a gmail account, get one. You can sync google calendar with iCal, and you can sync your mac address book with the google one. This way all your contacts and calendar events will not have to be re-done when you get the phone (if you do) :)
