Who thinks the batter life is quite good?

So after all the horror stories about battery life I was kinda worried about my new Desire - especially as I am a full brightness, 3g loving kinda man.

But having got the phone on saturday, I have found it quite good. I mean, I played with it almost constantly for about 8 hours, and I still had 30% charge left. Normal usage would be maybe an 2 hours or so per day, so i don't think there is any danger I'm gonna run outta juice at work.

Also, when sleeping, I don't seem to lose any battery power at all, despite the experiences of others. Anyone else think the battery problems are overblown?

Went to bedwith almost full battery and woke up with it at 14% so in my case, no,the battery problems aren't 'overblown'.

I'm finding my battery life has improved loads since using WiFi at home.

As soon as I turned off mobile Internet being permanently on, my battery life is fine. It's a shame that HTC released a phone with such great features without a battery to support them.

Then you have an app preventing the phone sleeping. Flickr is a known culprit. The app spareparts will help you find the culprit

I think it's good, I'm on 25% at the moment and the phone has been on since 9am yesterday morning with quite a bit of Internet activity and music playing, loads of texts and phone calls

I very rarely go a night without charging anyway so a days battery life with heavy usage is good for me.

I have emailed Mophie to see if they are considering one of their juicepacks for the Desire, I have no doubt this phone will be big and I reckon the market will be there.

It sucks. Any battery that cannot be used for a full day is not worth the hassle IMO. The thing is, it sleeps OK, (doesn't lose battery at all overnight), but it still drains a lot when being used.

When Froyo comes out I'ma totally wipe the phone, and also remove the extra apps I don't want, and do it from scratch..... saying that, I dunno how much help this will be seeing as it sleeps OK anyway, implying that background apps aren't draining it too much.

for me it's really good.getting 2days with quite heavy usage, email, web, a bit of gps, playing games, phone calls, txts. but that is where i live as reception is very good and the data is on HSDPA. but when i go to work, poor signal, barelly working G so im getting easily a day.

Compared to my iPhone 3G which I recently sold, the battery life is great I can leave the phone on over night and still have at least 50% in the morning.

If your battery doesn't last very long and you've tried everything you can think of, such as turning everything off, reducing brightness, checked sleep settings etc..

Then maybe the battery that came with your phone was just from a below average batch like mine must have been..

Maybe HTC were so desperate to get Desire stock to carriers and shops ASAP that they compromised on battery quality and shipped batteries that usually would have failed their quality control tests.

Buy an identical HTC branded Desire replacement battery and maybe you'll have better luck. The difference in performance between the one that came with my phone, and the one I ordered later, is shocking. The new one lasts on average twice as long.

Even if the new one you buy turns out to have the same low performance as the original, at least you'll have a spare.

For a smart phone, the battery life is within parameters. As with others, during the night, it loses little to no battery life and im more than happy with its battery performance. I mainly use wi-fi at home, but APN is left on , and what appears to me to drain power, is constant use , which with any mobile device, is going to happen !. I will say ive had the Desire 4 weeks now, and yes, battery life has improved greatly.

I've had my flikr removed from friendstream for a while but it hasn't helped. What will the app do to help?

It's pretty good for me, I only have to charge the phone at night (had it for just under two weeks), I'm usually in the office with GPS/Mobile/Bluetooth off but WiFi on all the time and use it quite a lot for email/internet/text and usually a couple of hours playing music. If I really need to I'll charge it while at my desk but even when I don't I've yet to run out of juice.

Actually, a few days after I'd first got it I tried draining it as I heard it helped to sync the software that manages the battery to do a full drain every 30 days or so and it took forever. After a day's usage (all of the above) I still had to sit up until after 12 streaming almost 3 hours of Youtube videos (HD where possible, I don't know if this is a bigger drain) before it finally died.

Maybe I use it less than the average user? It doesn't feel like it I'm constantly looking stuff up, checking mail or just swiping through the homescreens and marvelling at how good it looks. Or maybe some of the batteries are just better than the others, I wonder what the tolerances are for these things?

Same here - took two weeks for the battery life to get good. Actually got 2 days out of today, so I'm pretty impressed. It also seems to do the 85% charge in an hour thing you get with Lithium batteries.

Something else I noticed is that the first 60% charge seems to drop quickly, but the last 40% seems to last much longer, and the last 20% seems to go on for ages. This could be because I'm subconsciously nursing the battery when it gets low, but it does feel like it actually lasts much longer than the initial big chunk of battery discharge would suggest, I wonder if some people just assume it's going to die when actually there's plenty of juice left (apart from the one time I purposely discharged it, mine's never actually fully discharged no matter how much I've used it).

Also, I've had GPS on all of today and notice my charge is slightly lower than it would usually be (49% after just over 10 hours, usually I'd be 58-64% about now), so it looks like that's a relatively big drain (I almost always have GPS turned off).
