Verizon or Sprint.....Droid 2 or Evo

This summer i would like to purchase my first smartphone. I'm out of contract with Verizon so switching carriers is a possibility (not att) I did all the research I could handle and I came to two conclusions or possibilities.

Jump ships to sprint for the HTC Evo (I like the mobile hotspot feature, the hdmi feature, and eventually the possibility to stream netflix)

-or-

Wait for Verizon to release the Droid 2 or Shadow that would have similar specs, (I'd like to have a physical keyboard though with droid 2)

Is sprint's cheap plans and bang for your buck really as enticing as it sounds or will i regret leaving verizon's coverage?? I live in rural Kansas btw, everybody here has Verizon. I don't know anybody with Sprint.

Anybody Verizon wanting EVO but just can't make the jump because of the new Motorola Droid's coming out???

Sprint coverage definitely exists in Kansas according to their map. If you were north, or north-west of Kansas I would say it's a crapshoot at best, as Verizon is basically the choice for those areas.

Sprint does have that 30 day guarantee - why not take advantage of it and see how it is?

What do you want a physical keyboard for, and have you used Swype long enough to learn it?

+1 Always consider coverage where you need it.

+2 Coverage trumps the phone in my book.

Someone said it further up, take advantage of Sprint's 30 day guarantee and see how the coverage is. The Evo is an awesome phone, but how awesome will it be if you can't use it? Make sure that you get good service before getting locked into another contract.

I'd find out how Sprints coverage is in your area. If it sucks, there would be no reason to switch. It sounds like you want a keyboard too, so I say wait for the new Droid.

I agree and is why I'm not joining sprint as the coverage stinks where I live and if theres anything I've learned
coverage > phone
Or something

For me stock android is important so I would go with the droid 2

What does this mean exactly? sorry, still new to the android platform.

I'm in non-rural Kansas, and was on Sprint for a few years. There are a few places on I-70 that it drops (shouldn't drop on a major freeway in my opinion); can't get it consistently in my house. While I'd love to have the Evo, no Sprint for me. Their customer service used to be bad too, altough I hear it is better now.

Based on the very poor battery life I'm hearing about, that too gives me pause for the Evo. I'm hearing good things about the Samsung Galaxy, so I'm hoping for that to come to At&T. Of course there's lots of concern about support and possibility of rooting the Samsung.

The Moto is sounding pretty good too.

Seems there is no 'perfect' phone. One has best screen, another best battery, another best UI etc. Just need to decide which functinoality of feature is most imporant to you....AFTER being sure you get on the right carrier.
