Surely It's Not That Easy?!

I've just connected my Desire to my laptop for the first time. I thought I'd have a little play around and try and drop a few things onto my Desire from my laptop.

I spent a while wondering why I could not access my SD card while the Desire was connected to my laptop. I then realised that I was already inside the bloody thing!

As the World Cup is now upon us I thought I'd ease myself in gently and send a Three Lions wallpaper across.

I simply created a folder called "Wallpapers", copied and pasted the file and voila - it appeared under photos in it's own folder called "Wallpapers".

Is it just as easy to transfer ringtones, message tones across?

I was expecting the whole process to be a bit more challenging!

Nope, that's it. Simple as! Remember you'll need the specific directory structure for ringtones and message tones:

/media/audio

...../notifications
...../ringtones
...../alarms

When copying across music albums, if you have album art that isn't tag against the .mp3 then rename it AlbumArt.jpg so that it doesn't show in your photos app.

Cheers, mate. How would I go about setting up the specific directory? Or is it simply a case of dropping them in the right directory which is already in place?

Ironically I haven't mate! Whilst I have always admired some aspects of the iPhone and Apple products in general, I have never owned one as I have always been put off by the fact you have to do everything Apple's way - eg. iTunes etc.

A lot of people have mentioned that Android is more confusing and complicated than the iPhone and other phones. Touch wood, I haven't found this to be the case thus far.

Creating a directory is basically just creating a folder, so create a folder called media (if there isn't one already) and then create inside that called ringtones etc and then drag the files in their correct place.

You can create the folders on your computer or on your phone using a free folder organiser such as Astro.

I was browsing the net in bed last night and noticed that a friend of mine had posted a new DJ mix on his blog. Just long-pressed the link and downloaded it straight to my mp3 folder so i could listen to it on the way to work this morning. So easy. I don't mind using iTunes but for me being able to download music straight to the phone is such a bonus.

Thanks, mate. I just managed to do that! I had a folder called media with a folder called audio inside it. Inside audio was a folder called notifications, so I simply added a folder for alarms and ringtones alongside that as per Lekky's guide. I think that's right, isn't it?

I dropped an MP3 into the ringtones folder and it now shows up when I go to select a ringtone, so assume I did it right?

I'd recommend downloading Ringdroid, great app for adding ringtones but also editing the files, works like Audacity does on the computer.

I've heard about this Ringdroid. I'll have to check it out. I'll also have to check out that app which enables you to organise and arrange folders - that sounds quite handy, as it will save me accessing the PC whenever I need to organise folders.

I found a good alternative to ASTRO for file management is ES File Manager. Found it more intuitive especially when connecting to my PC via Wifi to transfer images and music across, because I was too lazy to go to my PC

Great app, just been browsing Windows XP computer Only thing is it can't see hidden files and folders like Astro can.
