Will Froyo really bring tethering/wifi hotspot to the Evo?

Froyo is supposed to bring tethering and wifi hotspot for free. Do you think Sprint will have enough influence to have this feature disabled and retain that BS $29.99 hotspot/tethering fee? Currently, usb tethering is disabled (the famous error code 67), you think we'll see error code 67 with froyo comes out?

Nope, you gotta pay. Sprint knows they are going to make a boat load off tethering hence why they are trying to charge $29.99 for it.

Just like they are not going to drop that dumb ass $10 dollar 4G, errr I mean "Premium Content" fee, cough...

This is all very confusing... So far I have heard that you can tether, you can't tether, it works at the moment, but they are about to shut it down, you can, but you have to root, you can but you have to run froyo, froyo will work, but only after you root...

I have a headache, I am going to take a nap...

You can tether with PDAnet or Easy Tether for free. Not sure why folks get so bent out of shape over the $30 hot spot charge - considering you can run up to 8 devices off of it, I think it is fair for Sprint to want something for that capability. Verizon only did it for the Pre because, well, no one is buying the Pre.

Wireless tethering *with the Sprint app* is $30/month. This is not the same as saying you are only allowed to use that app. There are multiple free and cheap ways to tether via USB, Bluetooth, and Wifi.

Sprint is like every other carrier when they used to put links to buy $1.99 ringtones from your phone's main menu even though you could easily transfer or message yourself files to use for ringtones. I remember as far back as my old Samsung flip phone in like 2003 being able to receive links via uploaders on various websites.

This is like that. They never said you can't use other applications to do this. They just don't advertise the fact that you can as they want to sell their commercial app.

For free/cheap USB tethering, install PDANet. For Wifi, you will need to root or at least use unrevoked to get superuser and then install wireless tether.

tethering is free on sprint...hot spots are not.

"Hotspot" is just a marketing term for wireless tethering.
