Accessories Seidio Innodock Jr. .... yech. It gets 4 'droids out of 10

Just got my "JR" today. All I can say is that it REALLY seems cheezy.

FOR ME, It's REALLY difficult to align the EVO on the base. I have to lift up the base and visually insert the MicroUSB into the phone. Without looking the thing rocks all over the place and I constantly miss it. Since there is no track to insert the phone and the MicroUSB is so tiny it's literally "hit or miss" plugging it in.

The MicroUSB connector sits on a bar and the bar rocks from vertical back to about 45 degrees. I assume this is by design because it allows for cases with bottom openings to fit but it makes it very difficult to align the charging port (especially since it is "off center" on the EVO.

It seems like it will fit with just about any case as long as there is a sufficient opening on the bottom of the case. My BodyGlove case is fine in the charger.

The silver ugly sticky silver (all rumpled) label that says POWER can be peeled off (REALLY Cheezy) but under it is a "hole" (probably a screw being covered). On the back what looks like a button is simply a rubber thing stuck into another hole (probably another screw).

I ended up removing the ugly cheezy label and took the black plug off the back and stuck it into the hole in the front. Now I have a "holy" back and a plugged front, no sticker and a 500 watt power light which serves no purpose. The green light is just power. It's always green even if no phone is present ... and WAY TOO bright. I'm going to cover it with black tape.

If the "OEM" cradle from HTC with HDMI is going to be $49.95 I'd stay away from this one. Pay the extra $20. This seems like one of those things you'd get off eBay for $5.99 from China with free shipping. Oh wait! It is made in China.

It's a REAL PAIN to insert the phone. Maybe I'm just spastic?

All in all, I give it a 4 out of 10. The only really positive thing I can say about it is that it "works." It's also very light. Hardly any weight. It needs some sort of weight inside it (it's mostly air) because the "mass" of the EVO makes it feel like it's going to tilt over (although I doubt it will).

Does it feel like it's going to put a lot of strain on the usb connector? I had docks for my last phone that I used a lot but I think I'm going to skip it with the EVO. I want to pick up the phone too much and with it plugged into a cable I can just leave it plugged in and do what I want. I bought a couple retractable micro USB cables off of ebay that don't take up much room and much more flexible than the standard cables.

Booo. After the last reviewer here was so kind to the innodock, I had my lady order one for me for father's day. If I don't like it, how long do we have until the HTC dock is out?

LOL, I just learned that it does "fall over" relatively easy. I backhanded it lightly (my fault but my iPhone in an iPhone dock took the hit like a man) and it went over like a weeble. It will fall to the SIDE not to the back. It's relatively stable from doing a back flip but a cartwheel can be expected if you bump it.

I got mad at it so I took a magic marker and blacked out the big ass Seidio logo and put a piece of black tape over the 500watt green light that never goes off. My luck the logo was probably lead paint. Now it looks like half a tennis ball painted black.

Edit: What is needed is a cradle with a "track" that the phone slips into so it mates up easily with the off-center micro-usb connector but of course that would no longer allow phones with a case or skin to fit.

Any workd on when the "Desktop charging Craddle" will be available from Seido?

And any pics of what its going to look like?

That might be a better dock then the Innodock Jr.

I got used to a having a dock for my Hero and now I'm back to wires waiting for accessories to come out. I thought about this dock (thanks for the review BTW). Although Seidio's description says it will work for an Evo with or without a case, it looks like it was designed more for use with the Innocase.

The Seidio site says there is another dock coming soon with a removable insert to accomodate a naked phone. This or the HTC dock can't come soon enough for me.

I've ALWAYS had docks for my phones. This is my first Seidio. Usually they are OEM.

The Innodock Jr dock looks like it will fit just about any case. There is like 3" of depth available. The thicker the case the less it will flop back.

I think all these Seidio desk chargers will eventually be sold on eBay as $5 knockoffs. I also have their $29.95 (+$7 shipping) separate battery charger to charge a spare battery. That one is almost identical to the ones on eBay that includes the charger AND 2 batteries for $12 shipped from China. At least from the pictures they look the same but there might be some slight difference. Close enough I'm sure.

Look at the same one for their other phones. All they usually do is change the tray for most of their docks and car kits. The problem with the EVO is the charging port is OFF CENTER. That makes it a "re-design/re-manufacture" issue rather then just needing a new tray.
