chompSMS: ChompSMS is amazing.

ChompSMS has got to be one of the best Messaging alternatives offered for Android and maybe even one of the best Applications in the Market. I text a ridiculous amount of times a day and i'm sure i'm not alone there. The only thing is, the native messaging app is pretty bad. After a few hundred texts it starts slowing your phone down and lagging. For someone who text all the time and needs it to be quick and easy as texting should be, the native app falls short. Not alone does performance in the native messaging app fall short but so does many features and customization. With ChompSMS so much more is added in the features and customization area. Anything from being able to Blacklist someone, setting individual ringtones, marking all as read or even having a way better looking UI. Of course the best thing about it is that performance does not get affected no matter how many texts you have. It just works and looks great all around. ChompSMS is an amazing app and i definitely recommend it.

Just downloaded this and I am wondering how I can make it the default SMS app so that when texts come in they don't send out an alert from the default sms app and can I add my alert tone for Chomp?

Try goto Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications, then select click the messaging app

I really like chomp, that it alerts over the lock screen, etc. But I hate the damn bubbles. I hope they give an option to just have it plain soon. For now I made my bubbles completely transparent so there's nothing around the text...kind of leaves me with floating text on the L and R sides of my screen in my threads though. I changed the font color at least so it's not confusing or anything.

I feel like it's a lot lighter than handcent, and I had HC on my hero, I feel like that screwed up my phone, no picture mail, wasn't getting alerted to texts, etc.

When I first got an android phone I got ChompSMS but then went over to Handcent. I may go back tp Chomp because Handcent has been lagging in opening as well as going between screens.

lol, thanks. I had already done that but it leaves the font just kind of floating there, and I still don't like how it's on the R and L side of the screen. But I'm sticking with it for now, still too scared to go back to handcent.

I love it so far, however I was sent a picture text last night and when I went to open it and the screen just flashed photo so wuick that I couldn't really see it. Instead of letting me view it for, ya know, a few seconds, it literally flashed and was gone.

Is there something that I am missing? When I send pics via text, it works just fine.

I have had problems recieving multiple pictures at the same time on chomp before. for some reason their mms isnt very good. ive never had the problem that you have had but im guessing its just a bug. hopefully it will be updated soon.

Im sure it is painfully obvious and im just missing it but how do i show the contact names in my conversation list. I realize the names show when you click on the conversation, but i want to see names as well as contact pictures on the main conversation list screen. Im coming from handcent and i liked their convo list layout. Thanks!
