Keyboard with the | character (Straight vertical line character)

I had the same problem. I need the pipe character for some of my passwords. I ended up installing Swype using the sideloading workaround.

Thanks for the tip! Do I see it there as the alternate on the number 4?

Default hTC sense keyboard has the | character aswell.
press [12#] on the bottom right then [1/2] on the bottom left of your keyboard.
It's on the bottom row after the smileys.
Everyone always overlooks the [1/2] page. ;)

It's not the same character. I know that most keyboards treat the solid and broken line pipes as the same, but for whatever reason, the HTC keyboard doesn't. Passwords that use the pipe character always fail.

Ohh sorry, just realized that I m not using the Stock hTC keyboard, but one of the modded/skinned hTC keyboards.
On mine it is the | after the smileys and the broken line before them.

If you like the hTC keyboard you can install one of the modded hTC keyboards. You can log into www.gimpsta.com to design your own skin for it. Reg is quick and free. Once your done it will give you an apk file to download the keyboard. These modded htc kbs have the | character you want after the smileys. The field is empty on the stock kb. Sorry for the confusion :)

once installed, go to your settings>language& keyboards and select "HTC_IME mod" to activate the KB.
There are a bunch of settings for it aswell if youd like to look thru them. When your ready to use it, long press on any text field and choose input method. Select HTC_IME mod and it will now be your default KB.
