Fellow american soldier needs help!!!!!!

Ok, this may be a stupid question, and no, I'm not too tech savvy, but I'm frustrated and need some help! My wife and I are both in the military, and I will be deploying next month. There is a wi-fi connection, but the stupid skype app that was just released won't let me make calls over wi-fi (which I'm sure you already know). Now, I've tried using Fring, but when I make a call over it, my voice sounds really slow and crazy. I don't care so much about getting video as I do about making calls. My wife is currently in England on a TDY, and we have hardly even gotten to talk to eachother because of this dilemma. Anybody that has some suggestions, PLEAAAAAAAASE help me!!!!!!! She has a good wi-fi connection, and we can talk on the computer skype to skype, but while I'm at work all day I don't get to hear her voice at all, and it sucks! We both have the Motorola Doid. Thank you ahead of time for any help!!!!

Verizon has an unlimited web and email plan internationally for 64.99 a month. You could add that to both lines and do skype to skype, thus forgoing the minutes.

Here is a little more info. I searched the app in question (Guava) and it came up with a different app that is free and open sourced. Hope this helps, and it appears to work over wifi...I haven't tried it though...

To get a google invite, use your military email address(.mil). It only takes a day or two to receive it. International call are only 1 or 2 cents a minute to England.

there is an app called ventrilo that may do what you need, I use it for gaming, but I dont see why it wouldnt work for you. I havnt tried it on wifi as my rural location prevents this.

I don't think ventrilo is out for android yet. Tikl is a walkie talkie app that allows you to talk over the internet for free. You can try that as well.
