Best video format for Droid playback?

The Droid can only play MPEG-4s right? If not what's the best format to rip movies to? I tried MPEG4 720X480 and the phone never even saw it on the SD card. Unless I'm doing it wrong (like music, I just created a folder called videos) A certain Tarantino film just leaked and I really wanna watch it during my commute....

All I know is that it needs to be mp4 format and you need to download Astro app. Then you go your "video" files then you can select the movie you want to see.

I use the iPhone format on my video converter and it works great.

I used Handbrake, and selected the iPhone settings. It encoded an M4V file, and it plays great on my Droid.

The best format is MP4 with 720

For DVD's I purchased DVD Catalyst 3 which already has native Droid support (I think it is on sale for $9.99). So far it has done a great job.

Orb is so much easier. Just leave your videos on your PC and stream them to your phone. You don't have to monkey with transcoding!

1500kbps is overkill...I and others have used as low as 800kbps w/excellent results. Going over 1000kbps seems like a waste of encoding time and space on your SD card.

Yup, the Droid only play .MP4 video, but you need to select the right resolution for Mp4, or you cant view the MP4 files on Droid phone. As for me, i usually use this android video converter to convert various video for my Motorola droid, it is already optimized for output setting for Droid phone...

Not true, I have several movies in 3G2/3GP format I made for my old LG dumbphones and the Droid plays them without problems. They don't fill the screen but they are just some cartoons for my kid when he gets bored.

Yup, the Droid only play .MP4 video, but you need to select the right resolution for Mp4, or you cant view the MP4 files on Droid phone. As for me, i usually use this android video converter to convert various video for my Motorola droid, it is already optimized for output setting for Droid phone...

If you do your own video editing like I do, you can edit your videos in Final Cut Pro then compress them for various outputs with Compressor. I have several HQ videos compressed to the mp4 and 3gp format that play great on my phone.

I'm new to Droid and pretty much a technotard when it comes to mobile devices. I've never used my cell for much more than a phone so when my wife got me a Droid I thought it was a waste of $$$. I Just took a cross country road trip and the Droid sure came in handy in ALLOT of ways.

OK, Video. I'm not too techno saavy but in order to get my videos to my droid I simply converted them to mpeg4 (MP4) format on Roxio then made a folder on my SD card and had Roxio dump the converted videos in the folder. Everything seems to be going fine. Once they are there I'll have to decide which video player I'll use out of the half dozen I've downloaded trying to get them to play.

AVI is just a wrapper format that supports a huge number of codecs. Rockplayer/Demoplayer, IIRC, allows you to view DivX encoded videos.

I agree though, demoplayer is awesome. You can use andtorrent to download movies and demoplayer to watch em. Oh happy day. Now I can watch any movie I want on my Droid.
