I'd go with an i7 if you can get it, but otherwise, it looks like a mainstream device.

I can afford that, gotta think it over. Windows really is a wonderful headache and I might wait to see:

My Toshiba is only a year and a half old and I am already considering replacing it... The touchscreen cracked shortly after the warranty expired, and now I'm getting weak stripes in my display.

The display itself is only fifty or sixty dollars, but the touchscreen is between $250 and $450 depending on who I go to.

I can't even find another of my model for cheap... So I may just buy a new one (something a little more robust), and set this one aside until the price of parts comes down to more reasonable. If nothing else, I could park it next to an external monitor and use it as a compact desktop.

Of course, I run Linux most of the time; so as long as the machine I get isn't Windows 10, I'm cool.

Nice machine. I just paid $1200 for a laptop with similar specs.

... of course, I plan on dual-booting it with Win 8.1 and Mint 16 KDE.

My current HP, ten years old, has what I thought is a whopping 250GB drive, also with Mint dualed. But this new one has a ton more of everything, way beyond what I really need – good for the next ten years?

And then, after ordering, then noticing that it just says 8.1, not 8.1 Pro, I confirmed that with Costco then canceled the order. I couldn't see the point in spending all that money on all those features and not receiving one of the most important ones... so damn close.

It's not really, but if I'm gonna spend all that money on a whizbang system, one that I honestly don't need in the first place, I want all the bells and whistles. Either that or it was just a convenient escape hatch. :eek:

I see. Personally, I see nothing in Win 8.1 Pro that is worth the $90... I'd rather spend that on a decent mouse or something.

The PC has some good points:

Turns out that 8.1. especially with Classic Shell, is pretty workable after all.
It certainly launched stuff faster than my ten year old.

But I'm returning it for these reasons:

Because I can.
The monitor sits way too high, too high for someone with trifocals.
The PCI slots don't accommodate full-sized cards.
It's quite cheesy compared to my ten year old.

Yes, for those that have come to know me, go ahead and roll your eyes.

Couldn't resist:

ASUS All-in-One PC A4310 - Core i3 4150T - 4 GB - 500 GB - LED 20" (Open Box Product, Limited Availability, No Back Orders) (A4310-B1-OB), $374.74.

I saw this thing at Frys in Phoenix a couple weeks ago. It booted and behaved very fast, but at $660, I decided to wait. I googled prices today. All were near that price except this open-box from MacMall, almost half that price. No idea what MacMall is doing with Win7 PCs, but couldn't resist that price.

I'll post again when I return it... :eek:
