System UI has Stopped error on Jelly Bean OS

I bought my wife an Android tablet running Jelly Bean 4.2.2. It's a Polaroid 9 inch, model PMID921x. It would not recognize its microUSB keyboard, and always defaulted to the ASOP keyboard. I just could not select external USB keyboard even though it was connected. I had seen on another forum that this might mean that it needed a new USB host controller. Her tablet is not compatible with Google Play, so I downloaded a USB Host Controller apk from another site that was available on the tablet as an app store. I rebooted the tablet and then got an error that said "Unfortunately, Launcher has stopped," followed by "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." And I cannot get rid of those errors! I'be rebooted into the factory reset mode---by using a combination of the power button and back button that are physically located on the side of the tablet--- but the tablet does not have physical volume controls on it, so I cannot scroll down to the "erase cashe/factory reset" setting when I get into the factory reset screen. So...is there a way to get the Android 4.2.2 system launcher to launch the OS from an SD card and boot past that UI has stopped error?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums.

With devices with no volume control, sometimes recovery is touch sensitive, or you can use the back or power button to "tab" through the menu options.

I was going to suggest pushing an alternate launcher to the tablet through the play store, but if you don't have that option, you might consider replacing it under a warranty claim since the keyboard never worked correctly in the first place.

Thanks for the quick reply, Lunatic59. You wouldn't believe how many Android forums I've been on, describing it in as much detail as I did here, only to get answers like "use the volume keys to scroll down the factory reset screen"...But unfortunately for me, the solution you suggested does not work. Any way I can download an alternate launcher from the Google Play store onto a microSD card plugged into my computer and then insert it into the tablet? Would that work? Sorry, sounds like an ignorant question, but I am more computer savvy than Android savvy.

No, it wouldn't work, because you'd still need to use the launcher to install it. Catch 22, I'm sorry to say.

I did look up your particular model of tablet and on the quickstart guide it shows a reset button (#10) on the back of the tablet about halfway down under the camera. It's most likely a little hole that you can put a paperclip or pin into to press a microswitch. The way these things usually work is you insert a small paperclip into the hole and hold it for 15 to 30 seconds until the device reboots. I can't say that it is exactly the way it works, but it's worth a shot at this point.

Hey, guys I have a problem here with my Android device. I don't really know what the reason is but my cell phone shows an error of which I don't have a solution. Every time I use my cell phone it keeps on popping up a message "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped". I press OK but it still shows that message box. I have a rooted phone Xperia L. I have installed ROM Toolbox Pro and according to others I installed Root Explorer. But was in vain because I can't able to copy or paste anything and it shows neither a status bar nor a navigation bar. And that error message keeps on popping up non stop. I don't understand what to do now. So please provide me with a sufficient answer.

The system UI is the process for the status bar. If you can work your way to menu>settings>applications>all>system UI while closing the annoying error messages, click it and hit force stop then clear cache then clear data and reboot.

No. it didn't help. That message still keeps on popping up. One more thing I am able to use an app but not for long like Walkman, after few minutes it starts to reboot again. I have reset my device but still no help.
What should I do?

You've got two options left. One is to try and flash the factory firmware. This thread might help you find the right firmware, and this video shows you how to do it.

It's not great, but it shows you the process.

If you can do that and it still throws the error, then I'd have to assume some aspect of the hardware has failed and it's time for a new phone.
