Root [Tool][Windows] Casio Root Tool+ v2.5.1

Good morning,
thank you, maybe it is the tool needed to install the recovery to my Jap CA-201L with 4.0.4
I dont reccomend trying this because this is designed for the Casio C771, and that phone is more related to the C811. Actually, the commands specify a vendor id so it will not work. Try using flashify, or doing the script yourself.
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot

I have been wanting to root my Casio Commando since I first got it a few years ago but not until recently have I seen a method that I thought I could use without a high risk factor. When I saw Commando Auto root I thought I can handle that. However, after reading this thread I realized you all have more experience than I do.

So I need very basic beginners instructions. It has been many months since I read about rooting a C771. I think I have to connect via USB with debugging mode enabled but I am not even sure about that.

Please direct me to instructions for someone who has never rooted anything.

Thank you very much

- I downloaded the V1.7 root kit with M150 build
- I found the drivers and have verified that the phone is identified in its own category as well as in the USB portion of device manager
- I allowed the "unknown" applications and set the phone in developer debug mode
- It is in charge only when plugged in and screen timeout set to over 10 minutes
- I've tried to run a top down root (it seemed safest) and get an error in finding the SU directory twice
- I then tried the bottom-up root and it dialed someone, I hung that call up, then everything locked. I got the android figure next to a triangle, pulled the battery and phone is back to normal after re-boot.
- I installed root checker and it reported that the phone was not rooted
- I suspect I've been undeservedly lucky three times now and am afraid to try again without some advice. I'm not savvy with these things, but believe I read multiple forums correctly. My goal is to just remove bloatware to speed up my phone. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks in advance

When I run root checker it says device does not have root access
Am I missing something??

Hey I'm trying to root my commando using your toolkit but it wont recognize it. Im fairly certain I have all the drivers (everything shows up right in the device manager) it just states waiting for phone detection. I have USB debugging enabled and in charge only mode. If possible any (working) links you have to the windows 7 software?

Assuming you are trying this with a C771,

The drivers for this phone are always a problem. Does it get stuck on "waiting for the device" type output or "waiting for phone screen unlock" type output?

You could also always install VMware and run the windows xp VM I made for rooting the C771.

I'm with AlexStratus.....I've never rooted a phone before, but I'd like to root my Commando C771. I have watched the Youtube video but everything is very small and moves fast across the screen so I can't see what steps are being taken. Are these steps being done with the phone plugged into a computer via USB cord? I have also read post 1 in this thread, and I'm not seeing detailed directions how to make this go off.

Step 1 says....1 - Access the Root/Unroot menu

Where is Root/Unroot menu? If I don't know where that is, would rooting a phone be too risky an adventure for a novice?

The biggest reason I want to root is to get rid of the bloatware apps that are hogging up phone memory. My internal memory is down in the 50mb range, and that is with as much moved to the SD card as possible.

What other benefits are there to rooting this phone that I'm not aware of?

Thank you.

Hi mattt,

Yes, the phone is connected to the computer via usb, in charge only, with adb enabled. In vmware when the OS is booted, you have to go to the devices menu, find the C771, and click connect to guest option.

The root/Unroot menu is in the batch file when you run it. Just double click RUNME.bat from the windows xp vm and you will see the menu. In the video, it doesn't show it, that is because the root/Unroot menu came after I made that video.

In the youtube player you can slow down or pause the playback speed to watch the commands being typed. When I set it to 720p I can see the commands pretty clearly from the screen, maybe that will help?

I have several other videos and guides to help with the rooting process, here are some:
https://androidforums.com/threads/h...rable-from-a-system-wipe.709840/#post-5732188 (this is root method number 2)
https://androidforums.com/threads/m130-rooted.659843/page-2#post-5306345 and
https://androidforums.com/threads/m130-rooted.659843/
(These are both root method number 1)
https://androidforums.com/threads/m130-rooted.659843/page-5#post-5322092 (another longer more explained guide to the above)

Benefits of rooting include but are not limited to:
Custom Recovery Image (nandroid backups, install update.zip files, etc)
Custom Boot image (recover a soft bricked phone)
Custom boot animation
Custom ROM
force apps to the sd card
expand your internal storage partition to your sdcard, effectively giving you (size of you sd card here)GB of internal storage.

I know the videos are out of date, not much I can/will do about them. It's mostly UI stuff out of date anyways.

@Willster419

Can I ask you to do some development for the C811? Would it be possible to do a toolkit like you have for the C771? I haven't found a reliable root method other then kingroot.... and would rather not run all that bloat. I don't mind buying you a C811 to play with, they are very cheap now in ebay.

There is a large amount of data out there and folks have already done CWM recoveries and fast boots, it's just a matter of getting root without the bloat.

I have found these C811 make great GPS devices but are so bloated and locked it limits the device.

If all you are looking for is root, I can provide that:
http://1drv.ms/1i99x1I <--my onedrive link, go to commando 2->root kits
grab the kingo root version in there. I extracted the bloat out of it and verified that this specific version works with the commando. Don't update the application.

That is very good to know about the debloated kingo. I will give it a shot tonight.

A tool kit might still be nice since it would collect all the data out there and put it in one place. You seem to have all the recovery data and fastboot stuff already in your one drive.

I am only pushing this issue because I have been evangelizing the beauty of the C811 as a super cheap alternative to the back woods Garmin GPS devices. I have been convincing all my dirt biking buddies to buy these phones and use them as GPS instead of dropping $600 to Garmin.

The 2 biggest draw backs to this phone as a GPS device are all the bloat apps and the clock app, clock app takes over the screen when you use the charging pads which messes with on screen navigation. You need root to kill it.

Anyways thanks for the heads up on Kingo.

While these can be great for that situation, the only problem I can see immediately is that they chew threw a battery like no tomorrow, especially with GPS on. But you can buy stock batteries for these phones for like 5 bucks on ebay, so you could just stock up on them. Of if you have them constantly on charge on the bike or something. Just a thought.

But anyways, on to the main question: While I have collected all of the important tools and such for these phones, I never have, nor plan to, do any big development work for them. I know it's not what you want to hear but I simply do not have the time, nor do I have the extensive background on these phones as I do with the C771 models. However, I can still provide you with instructions to get the phones to the steps you need. Let's take it from the top (you have an unrooted phone setup with your google account currently in your hand)

0. You will need to download these files to your phone's sdcard from my oneDrive:
  • CWM_recovery.img (Images->recovery)
  • Ca201L Custom aboot.zip (Images->aboot...)
  • Eithor C811_M070_baseband and system_boot, or the M050 ones. I remember hearing problems about M070 and root years ago, about it would remove root when you reboot. I think a fix was made, but I just avoided it alltogether and kept M050. (If it aint broken don't fix it mentality).
  1. Root your phone using kingo root I provided.
  2. On your phone, download and install flashify.
  3. Access the "flash recovery image" option, and navigate to the CWM_recovery.img, and flash it
  4. Download and install titanium backup to access the "reboot to recovery mode" option
  5. When in recovery, navigate to "flash zip from sdcard" (use volume keys to navigate menu, power button to select.
  6. select and load the Ca201L Custom aboot.zip. When that is installed, you can access recovery mode from a cold boot by holding tactile key + vol up + power
  7. Do a nandroid backup of your system just in case (backup menu, backup, or backup to external sdcard if you wish)
  8. install the system_boot, then baseband of the same "M" designation you chose.
  9. factory data reset from main menu.
  10. reboot. at this point you are rooted without a "superuser" application, just the binary. That means it will always approve superuser requests. If this does not bother you (never bothered me), then you are all set. If not, then you can get a superuser application like the clockworkmod version of superSU from the play store.
  11. Complete the setup process and relink your google account.
  12. You need to wait for the play store and google services to auto update themselves during this time. It will be account 10-15 mins. Make sure to go to the play store at least once and prevent it from trying to re-install your applications that were on your previous phone. While you're at it, try to disable as many system bloatware applications as well because as stuff updates it will consume more and run out of RAM.
  13. When everything is updated, install busybox (the one from steriscon). Then install titanium backup and uninstall all the system bloatware you want :)
Obviously, you could have stopped at rooting our device, but taking these procedures it useful for if you need to re-install your phone, or if you bootloop it and need to get into recovery mode to reset it.
