So I have a 14GB SD card and I still have 11GB free but I can't download any apps. I have no downloaded apps on my internal card neither a lot of pictures nor videos. I find this rather odd.
I think it's not fair I paid for the largest card and actually get nothing from it because I can't use it.
Can this problem be solved? (Deleting apps is no option)

Yours sincerely,

A Huawei G6 user

Android hasn't supported installing apps to sd cards in years. SD cards - internal or physical external - are intended to store media, downloads and minor data.

You still see it for some apps providing legacy support but it doesn't do what you think it does on modern Androids.

The feature is returning in a new form in Android M 5.2 - but that doesn't help you today.

Your only options are -

Root your phone if possible and try Link2SD, FolderMount, or Mount2SD.

Get some backup software - such as MyBackup - and create backups of what you need to your SD card. Then, when you need something, uninstall something in the way and restore what you need from your backup.

Thank you! I really couldn't figure out how to fix it. I'll just follow the directions you gave me and make the best of it then!

As alluded, system memory and USER memory are two different storage locations. You take pictures and store personal files in user memory (and the SD card), but the phone uses system memory for apps, call log, SMS/MMS messages, etc. If you have a huge call log or a lot of messages, you might want to clear those out to increase available system memory. Good luck!
