Help 1.5 vs 2.2

Hello,
I've come to this forum out of total frustration. I've not been thrilled with my Eris since I purchased it. I've already found some great tips on here that I hope will help.

My question is, would there be any advantage to downgrade by to android 1.5? I'm currently running 2.2. I know I will loose my Navigator function, but it would be worth it to me if the phone performed better.

Is this downgrade even possible?

Some people say that 1.5 ran better (I don't believe it, but whatever). But if you do go back to 1.5 it does have a nasty message bug. You can't use the stock messenger because it won't let the phone sleep so it causes unnecessary battery drain.

I recommend rooting and using xtrROM. The phone becomes much more well-behaved after that.
