The only way is to root it. Here's how I did it for my wife's phone. I installed LeeDroid v3.3.3 Data version. It's stable and there's no internal memory issue. Before you do anything, please goto Settings, About Phone and check out your software version. That way, if you every need to restore, you can do so quite easily.

Sorry to add this but rooting is not the only option but it us by far the best solution as if its done right, you'll never have any issues.
There is a way to force all/the majority your app data to SD card as the Froyo & Gingerbread method only moves a selected amount of data to the sd. I cannot give you a link as IM on my phone but check out SUroots guides in his sig or the stickys (threads pinned at the top) in the forums (including sub-forums). If you can't find the guide and want it, I can give you the link but it will have to be later I'm afraid.
