A Complete Solar System Creator and Manager for Fantasy and Sci-Fi Gaming

Application Request.

What I think would be very helpful and would like to see:

A solar system management app that allows users to create, save and share Universe profiles that describe, in varying detail, the specific orientation, location and temporal information of one or more planets orbiting one or more suns in one or more solar systems.

At its simplest, the app would be able to track a given planet's location within a solar system accounting also for its orbital path, the time of day given a comparator to Normal (Earth) time. Then, as the user see's fit, he or she can add more details as needed, such as:

  1. The position of other planets, asteroids, comets, moons, etc. within the system.
  2. The position of the solar system within the (a) galaxy.
  3. The position of extra-system items of significance such as: black holes, nebula, worm hole entrances and exits, etc.
  4. The time and locations of other items (planets, yes - but anything habitable or significant to the user) with their own data sets for comparison to any other object of significance.

Here are a couple of quick definitions:

Item of Significance: anything that a character in the user's universe might be standing on, thereby creating the need for more specific information than a Window Dressing.

Window Dressing: anything that can be seen that a character would not be standing on. So It can be seen but a character would not be seeing anything FROM it.

Extra-System Item: Things that lie outside of any solar system that would be significant to the user, say, in terms of space travel or exploration, or that can be seen from an Item of Significance.
A user should also be able to create a galaxy, possibly randomly generated and/or a type of galaxy (disk, spherical, spiral, etc.) also randomly generated, and then choose the location of any significant solar systems (those significant to the game or story) within that galaxy. Together with a running calendar, the user would have all the information needed to describe what a character on any given Item of Significance wold be seeing. The User should also be able to determine the position of any character on an Item of Significance, so as to be able to figure exactly what they would be being seen at any given moment. Imagine talking to a friend in a ship on the other side of the sun: "Oh, the sun is setting here, its so nice." "Well, from here I can see the asteroid belt and they're all lit up in full sunlight." Or a character talking to someone on another planet: "Which star is your's again?" With a universal (ha, literally) clock and calendar - perhaps synced to current or future or historical Earth time, the changes, conjunctions, visible astronomical and astrological features of that universe could be tracked precisely. Then, when necessary, the user could rewind or fast forward time to help predict (say for story telling purposes) astronomical events or just to allow characters on different planets to compare their individual views. As an additional consideration, the user should be able to "paint" specific features onto the surface of any significant item to help account for distances between points on that place. Basic maps could be generated from this data. As a final thought, the sum of information should be packaged and shareable - trade-able so as to allow people to co-create worlds and track the time and places of each, sharing the workload or just sharing the data, say from a game ref to their players. Maybe a book author could create an official galactic map and share it online with with his/her readers. Imagine an official compendium to StarTrek or Star Wars or any of the other famous galaxies (including alternate versions of our own) or just making up one of your own.
