Anybody paid for Whatsapp?

I got a pop-up today that I have only 7 days before my whatsapp expires. I was like, wasn't it free?

So here I am asking this, has anyone really got cut off and if its legitimate pop-up.

It is free for the first year. Then a dollar a year thereafter.

I paid a long time ago. I think through PayPal.

Not sure of any way to not pay. Perhaps you could let it expire and see. To me it was "well, it's only a dollar" so I paid it once I was sure it was a legit transaction.

I paid for it, then got a notification they were giving me a year for free (or maybe lifetime, I don't recall). When I changed phones I didn't install it, then did and now think I'm back to my free/introductory year.
I did use it a lot but honestly not that much now so don't care, if I have to pay again in a year I will...if anyone I know starts using it again. Mostly everyone just uses their carrier SMS/MMS now, I gave up trying to have them use GV and WhatsApp a long time ago, a losing battle it was.
But yeah, it does expire and you have to buy it yearly. It's cheap and a good service.

I didn't because mine is still within first year. However, I heard from my friend that if you didn't pay, it will extend another year for free.

I can't even get WhatsApp at all, never mind paying for it. "This item is not available in your country." That must limit its usefulness if it's geo-restricted to certain countries only.
