Does anyone know of an app that will enable me to turn the phone on from sleep mode by using either the trackball or the other three buttons at a touch. Mainly so as I can have a look at the clock in the middle of the night.

Someone suggested an app called widgetlocker butfor some reason that is no longer available onThe MarketMany thanks

I use widgetlocker to unlock on any button-press.
    But:
If you can get a charger beside your bed you can have the clock on in "night mode" permanently!

Considering screen burn in can be a problem I wouldn't recommend that.

The night mode display is like a PC screen saver, it shows the time, date and next alarm time and automatically moves the display around the screen every minute or so.

I've been using it as my bedside clock and alarm from day 1 and it has never failed and absolutely no screen burn.

Gentle Alarm moves the text around the screen very slooooooooooooooooowly during night mode, so slow you never see it but it stops screen burn.

If you go into the HTC Desk Clock app, there are 2 buttons just below the weather - these minimise the display to show just the time, date and alarm status.

The left hand button (Moon and Star) shows a dimmed version appropriate for night viewing

The right hand button (PC and Clock) shows a normal brightness version

Both options also act as screensavers, i.e. moving the display every 60 seconds or so, avoiding screen burn.

Additionally, when charging, the screen does not time out ... so I just pop it into the charging cradle on my bedside table, put it into night mode (I have a swipe action set for one of my Launcher Pro dock icons) and it becomes my very useful alarm clock!
