Root astro/open files help

trying to get 2.1 on hero and having trouble , i have down graded rom from htc site , installed astro on hero and have downloaded and put on sd card flashrec & recovery , how do i open files using astro as i am struggling flashrec comes up as a open box with papers sticking out , i have tried long press and to no avail , hhhheeeeeeeeeeelllllllllllllllllpppppppppppppp

with astro you locate flashrec and click on it once. It should then open an installer.

Have you tried restarting your phone?

& have you unmounted your sd card from the pc ?

just gonna try turning phone on / off , if no good gonna give it another go another day , i am determind to get 2.1 on phone

It will work. Just follow the instructions that I have posted (see my sig for the thread URL).

Try everything more than once if it fails. You can do it =)

Search here using your firmware number and see what the method is to get root / install a custom rom.
