So, in essence, if I've resisted the leak temptation, and thus far, the root temptation, I now have to consider losing the root opportunity if the first root ROM does expire?

Jebus, I had to type umpteen lines of FORTH (and that input was unforgiving, to say the least) into an old Mac G3 so its firmware would let me install and run NetBSD. I'd prefer that to this kind of temptation when I'm ultimately still happy with my phone as-is. I'd just like root because I think we deserve root on devices we own, provided we understand what that means.
