    So, we all know there are problems with stuttering and skipping in Pandora. Here's some proof of what's going on when it happens. I hooked up my phone and grabbed the system log as I started Pandora and easily got it to stutter and skip. I added notes as to what what happening at each step.

    Perhaps this log will raise some awareness of the problem and if we're lucky all this will make it back to Sprint and Samsung and get fixed soon.

    Here I'm chaning the orientation which causes the stuttering to begin.
    I would estimate that each error/reset of the alsa driver creates a stutter sound.

    I'm not totally up to snuff yet on Android development, but as a Linux admin, it looks to me like Pandora is connecting to the phone's audio device, losing that connection, and restarting it from time to time. When you change orientation, the Android environment actually pauses the application, saves its state, and then recreates it on screen very quickly - it's possible that this could be a contributing factor. That said, something like Pandora probably uses a service to do the playback, which should run in the background and not be affected by UI changes.

    As an aside, I've been using last.fm recently. I've actually found that I prefer it to Pandora, but that's a personal taste thing. It seems like it's something in the Pandora app that doesn't play nicely with the Moment, since last.fm seems rock solid to me.

    "com.pandora.android.activity.NowPlaying" is the background process and it's started just before the first song begins to play in the log.

    I'm using Slacker radio as an alternative to Pandora that has fewer problems, but it's not immune to the problems either.

    All in all, there's something wrong with the Moment's audio system and while not all streaming apps are running into it, this is definitely something that Sprint/Samsung need to fix and not leave it to developers to find work arounds for faulty behavior on one device. Pandora works without any problems on other Android phones.

    Perhaps it is something as simple as setting a more appropriate buffer and/or error threshold.

    Also, that 1KB buffer size is an issue, too. That's not a very long sample buffer. At least the good news is it appears that it is a software issue, and not related to the hardware. I'd mentioned in the "Pandora Issues" thread that my G1 has never stuttered on audio ever, including thru BT A2DP, and it's got an older 528 MHz processor (even though that shouldn't matter for audio with any decent codec).

    I say call samsung tech support, or submit it via email. I would sent it to samsung and sprint.

    I doubt Samsung will do anything about a misbehaving app, Sprint certainly won't, though it can't hurt to try. Pandora's probably the best way to go.
