I know there are quite a few app threads, but instead of searching through them all (and some of them are pretty long) I'm hoping to get some help in an easy to find place :)

I'm traveling next week for work but plan on doing some sightseeing and that kind of stuff as well. What apps out there would be cool and/or useful to have while you're traveling?

    Thanks!

Yelp is pretty good - it searches for local places to eat and drink - you can also read reviews from the community.

I posted this in another thread, but it's relevant here too...

I'm going to Tokyo in a couple of weeks and would love to be able to use the GPS function with maps. I under stand that google maps requires a data connection to pull the images for the map as you go. Is there a program or method through which I could pre-download maps of Tokyo and use the phone's GPS while I'm there?

Cool, thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them all out. If anyone has any else, feel free to share. I'm new to smartphones, and have no idea what all the possibilities are.

Mapdroyd looks perfect and has a ton of positive reviews. It also has a compass function that will orient the map to where you're standing, it works well now, I'll update when I get back from Tokyo.

    Thanks!
