I thought I'd put this here since alternative currencies are a hot item for a debate. Many here know me as 'that nutjob' or 'that idiot', or various other loving adoring terms (I prefer moral anarchist, practical libertarian myself).

One thing I am CONSTANTLY kicking myself on was not buying $300 in bitcoins when they sat at $13/coin (we can see now that they're worth a LOT more...). I've always supported the concept of anarchist, decentralized currencies like this.

Anyway, I put it in N&CA because I have a feeling this will become a debate before long about national vs decentralized, user-controlled currencies.

It won't become a debate - either the government will ignore it or outlaw it. Probably outlaw it, since only the government has the legal right to create legal tender.

I do believe there is a coffee shop in Scotland that allows you to pay using bit coin and will even give you the best available exchange rate on it....
