camera (night pics)

i can take amazing pics with my DX during the day, better than my 10mp camera from 2009, but at night the pictures are horrendous. even with night mode. anyone know reasons as to why or if they experience the same crappy quality at night.

You could change the ISO setting off auto and fool around with that to see if it makes it any better. Mine doesn't take "great" night pictures, but they're good. Flash is bright enough for group shots at the bar!

If you want to take great pictures at night or day, try the Sony NEX5 or NEX6. Its the best camera I've ever used. the DX's ccd is too small to capture adequate night shots. Mega pixles mean nothing, its the size of the ccd that matters.

i find the iso at 400 takes the next night / low light shots.

infact i leave it at 400 all the time

Agreed, if the lighting isn't good it takes terrible pictures but if there is good lighting they come out amazing.

If you are taking landscape pictures(pictures of the landscape, not how you hold the camera) turn the damned flash OFF!
If you are taking pics of people, USE the flash and get CLOSE to them. I am amazed at people that leave their flash on in a stadium to take pics of a sporting event....like the flash is gonna be brighter than the stadium lights...or thinking the flash will reach out 200 yards...or can't figure out how to turn it off.
Maybe still not the greatest pics but not too bad. Gotta remember, this is a PHONE, not a camera. A real digital camera will blow this phone away.

Has anyone had the following happen?

Try taking a pic in lets say your living room with normal lighting that you would have in your LR, The first pic turns out grainy and dark like $hit, you delete it, immediately take the same pic without changing anything at all and its a great pic.....This is getting on my nerves.

Rooted, Running Apex1.3 but i had this issue with stock Rom as well.
