Can gmail be set to synch time other than auto

Hello all:

I have gmail and my outlook exchange mail "synched" with my eris.

Exchange is set to every 15 min (the default).

Gmail (mail,contacts) is auto.

Is there anyway to set gmail to synch at a different level (other than "on" or "off").
