Can I use any new tablet with my existing Verizon account?

Kind of a newbie question, but in this area I am a newbie :).

I have a Verizon 3G account, and I'm looking to upgrade my tablet. I'm not that happy with the tablets Verizon offers, and am wondering if I can buy a tablet NOT from Verizon and use it on my account. Is there a quick way to determine if a tablet can be used on a 3G (or 4G, if I'm willing to pay more) line? Will Verizon know/care if I buy a device not from them.

For example, I really like the ASUS Prime, but I don't think it has 3G/4G capabilities.

Any tips on whether I can do this, and what I need to look for, would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

This is a complicated question. Verizon 3g is CDMA and 4g is, well, I do not know! This means that you would have to find a tablet with the same 3g and 4g radios. Then you would have to "fix" the ESN which is a touchy subject on most forums.

Best bet would be to tether it to a Verizon phone and use the tablet that way.
