Help Can't send/receive photos using text msgs

My wife's Kyocera Rise suddenly stopped receiving and
sending photo attachments when text messaging.

She contacted VM and, other than having her do the
soft reset (power off, remove battery for 30 sec), no
help at their end.

When she gets a text with photo, it has a "download"
button, not the photo. Clicking "download" gets error
message.

Sending a text with photo gets nowhere as it stays in
the 'sending' mode followed by red x.

Normal texting without photos is working perfectly.

Sure would appreciate any help with this. :)

i have the same problem. my friend sent me a video, so when i click the Play icon, a pop-up comes up immeditely that says "Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped", and an "OK" button. when i click OK it goes to the home screen. If I figure it out I'll let u know.

Try to long press it and save the attachment, then go to the gallery and play it.

Also, is she using wifi or data to download the mms?

I have seen issues if data is turned of and receiving mms on virgin.

Okay, she had both VM data and WiFi turned on. We tried it again
with WiFi turned off, and could then receive and send photos with
MMS.

However, the WiFi kept coming back on all the time which caused
conflicts with the MMS attachments again.

In another thread the Connection Optimizer has to be disabled to
prevent that. I did that.

I checked the advanced WiFi settings and made sure the "Wi-Fi
auto on" box was unchecked. Also, "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep"
is set to never. Not sure what to do about "Wi-Fi auto on schedule"
but guess it's inactive due to unchecked auto on box for settings.

Powered off her phone and waited a couple of minutes before
turning it on again. Did NOT remove battery.

She's now able to send and receive photos in MMS again. Gonna
monitor her phone for awhile.

This is a common problem with the Rise. Your solution should work. But this is very common with alternate text apps. The problem is do to the signal intervals sent by the Rise.
A quick signal will constantly drop wifi and 3G. A solution that would definately resolve this problem is to root your device and use some tweaks from an app called PimpMyRom.
