Help Changing the way Gmail looks

How do I change the way Gmail looks in my tablet? I want it to look like it does no my Galaxy Nexus and my Nexus 7 ( 2013 ), that is I don't want the tabs on the left and I don't want to see the accounts except when I touch the account on the top.

Also I want to be able to delete emails by checking them and touching the trash can so I can delete several emails at once.

Only way I know is finding an apk somewhere for an older version. But I think you'd need root to remove the one preinstalled with the tablet first.
