I recently found an app in the Google play store called Circle Launcher. I played with the free version for a day or two and then bought the full version, full version is only $1.00. This app helped me consolidate several home screens into one screen. The widgets provided by this app are like folders but you can customize almost everything about its look and feel (icon, size, label, animation transparency, etc.).
Here is my home screen, the first row of icons are Circle Launchers:
This is what happens when I tap on one of the Circle Launchers (I tapped on Social for this example):
You can add as many apps to each circle as you want as well as choose the look and feel.
