Download app

Dear android experts,
Please help a phone simpleton.
On my previous galaxy s2 there was an app called downloads. It kept your downloads! On my note 3, I downloaf a file and then can't find it. Is there a simple app to use or have I missed something? I'm not talking about clever huge file stuff here, just simple word or pdf documents.
Thanks if you can help (words of max 2 syĺlables referably)

Long press a download from the notification drawer to view or play it Everything downloaded goes to "Downloads" in your internal memory by default.

Go to app drawer, select my files app,select all, select device storage, select download.

There is probably a way to make a shortcut to this screen but I haven't played around with it much. I use nova launcher so how I create a shortcut would probably be different.

I don't know why choosing the download app won't take us to all downloads, just hose from current day.
