I recently bought a Droid X from a friend of mine. I was going to try to activate it by calling *228 but they informed me that it was stolen. Doing the best I could, I reserched how to get around this.
When a phone is reported "Lost/Stolen" it it moved to a blocked list that phone cannot be activated. So I though, "Change its ESN and HEX number to the current phone I have that way they cant block it regardless".
Problem with this idea is that you can change them but, the phone has to be able to access its setting. Mine it stuck on the activation screen

Now that we have see the problem I was wondering, is there a way to use a SD card to load another persons phone on it, then change the ESN and HEX numbers? Or is there just a faster way in general? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

If the phone is from a "friend" of yours.. can't you just ask your friend to call verizon and release whatever hold they have on the phone?

tell your "friend" to give you your money back. then walk into a verizon store and get a legit DX.

Please don't come to this forum asking us how to circumvent security like this. There is someone out there that is very sad right now cause their phone was stolen and your "friend" got it and "sold" it to you. The moral thing to do would be to get your money back and then beat the person who sold it to you since they knew it was stolen. Then take said phone back to verizon so it can be returned to its rightful owner. The one that is currently crying.

No, it wasn't my friends phone. and yes I dont mean to come to this forum and try to break your rules, I dont mean to disrespect it either. And if the phone if returned to Verizon its going to just be refurbished and resold to another person, not the original owner. unlike you guys I dont have the money to buy this expensive phone at the full price so Im buying it in the most legal way (Without knowing it was stolen at the time) to get one. If anyone on your forums would be able to actually be able to give me a hand in my predicament I would greatly appreciate it.

This phone is currently $0.01 0n amazon, i doubt you paid much less than that. If that sale is over these phones go for $50-80 all the time on letstalk.com and other sites. this phone aren't expensive anymore

this happened to me once. i had a motorola q that blew up on me (for some reason i didnt see a problem with not deleting text messages for 6 months...had around 15000). i paid my deductable and got a new one then gave it to my little sister. 3 months later she bought a new phone. a friend of mine lost hers so i then gave the q to her. when she tried to activate it they told her it was stolen. just because verizon says its stolen doesnt mean it really is.

but for all we know your friend stole it from some rich 12 year old and sold it to you. i hate thieves....

Unless you get it within the first month (Droid X the only exception I can think of because of the backorder) they are cheaper online.

The phone is stolen, you said so yourself. Call Verizon or go to your nearest local store and turn it in, PLEASE.
