Dropbox security issue?

I recently got the Galaxy S3 and Dropbox was an included app service on the phone. I went through the sign up procedure for DropBox. The next you know Gmail is giving me security warnings that an IP address, belonging to DropBox, attempted to access my Gmail account and that I should change my password. So I did. Now, as far as I know DropBox is now owned by Google (?) and so I find it odd that a) DropBox would attempt to login to my Gmail account and that one hand suspects what the other hand is doing.

I sent an email off to both Dropbox and reported the issue with Google Play. I haven't received any response back.

Anyone have any idea what is going on? Now I'm paranoid about DropBox.

If you registered your Dropbox account using a Gmail address don't worry. Dropbox was just verifying it was a legitimate email address.

Dropbox is pretty good about customer service. You'll probably hear from them soon.
